I'm finding this thread interesting, with New Zealand being the only overseas place I've ever been to. It's fascinating to hear the perspectives of people who have been living overseas long periods of time. I think self assessment is a good thing both as a nation and as individuals. Now that the kids are older I plan to do some overseas travel over the next 10 years while we're still young and fit enough to enjoy it.

haha that is actually pretty accurate. I have found myself being nicer and more tolerant than normal since getting back. In some ways I really don't like that. I like being mean when its appropriate. Last week I was driving in my local area when I experienced some clown blocking the street while he chatted with someone. I honked gently and he proceeded to road rage. Got out of his car and came at me. Without flinching I informed him that he was being recorded, that I was about to call the police and also explained to him what I was about to do to him and what a worthless piece of shit he was. In that moment I owned him. I destroyed him and I felt good.I respect all our moderators here. Past present and even future. Always have done and always will do a wonderful job.

We've definitely had a few moments where we couldn't really afford it but just went 'stuff it... let's take $15k out of the offset and just do it because we'll regret it otherwise'.
Most recently I was being all stingy because we'd bought a new house, interest rates had gone up and we were hurting from a few unexpected expenses. My wife wanted to go to Vietnam for lunar new year and head via Thailand. I was like 'caaaarn... SE Asia is super dirty and stressful... I wanna relax, not hustle and bustle around a heap of streets like backpackers... we don't have the money anyway'. I gave in, we bit the bullet and I'm glad we did as it was awesome. Mostly because it got me away from work and I got to bond with my wife's family (who stress her out majorly and she never wants to see - 99% of why I didn't understand her desire to go).
I got to know the fan much better and we were all chilled (it's great meeting them rather than hearing about them from their daughters who act as if they're evil oppressors when they are really super chilled people). Many great memories doing my running around crazy streets, hitting up crazy wanter parks, drinking local hooch with the fam and meeting random people. We also got to meet an awesome comrade who studied in Russia, used to run a tour company for Vietnamese tourists [prior to the invasion], has an awesome collection of soviet kitchenware and loaded me up on vodka served out of a soviet-era teacup. Bliss! Glad we did it as money's just money.Last edited by ism22; 10-04-2023, 10:33 PM.

Then again, i reckon you must be a teen supporter because you act like one. Schoolyard bullying at its best.
