This pronunciation saga is most likely a product of the good ship inclusivity as it sails the sea of exclusivity. I have spent most of my life working and living abroad. In every country my name was pronounced very differently to how it is here. I found that slightly entertaining and never ever insulting or uncomfortable. I never once expected others to adopt an Australian accent when conversing with me, because that would have been selfish, misguided and arrogant to do so. When in Rome, and all that.
I highly doubt that the driving force behind this fad is from the players that carry Oceanian names. It is probably the media that is the main instigator, confusing natural cultural pride with the pedantic crossing of t's and dotting of i's. Let's Call the Whole Thing Off (You Say Tomato, I Say Tomato).
It's a good day to watch Penrith lose.

If you're unhappy or disillusioned my friend there's other more feral and horrendous platforms for you to frequent like reddit or leagueunlimited. Trust me....they make our forum seem tame and friendly.
Anyway, nobody's twisting your arm to tune-in champ!

Its like CAT was pronounced Dog!
Put a H in front of it but Height isn’t pronounced Hate.
Put a W in front of it and yes Weight is pronounced as Wate, but we instead we spell it as wait.
Sean Bean is a great actor but we’ve all accepted that is name is pronounced “Shawn been” even though it should obviously be “Shawn Bawn” or “Seen Been”.
At what point did you start trying to make sense of the English language and why is it that Polynesian surnames is what confuses you rather than the numerous fundamental flaws of the language itself?

So is he saying people can be bigots on here as long as they are expressing their bigotry in a reasonable way?

By suggesting people should express their opinions in a reasonable way he is by default suggesting they shouldn’t be bigots.
I don’t agree with Gman or MCMLXVI that this is being driven by the PC police or do gooders, instead I think it’s come from a genuine place of respect and the PC brigade have jumped on the back of that and often construed needless arguments & criticism to try and drive more division & faux outrage. For example I saw criticism of one of the commentators in a pre-season trial which we all know there can be up to 60 players partaking and often players we’ve never had exposure to before, there’s going to be errors made in those types of situations… it’s not that deep.
So I can empathise with their viewpoint and I certainly don’t think it’s steeped in bigotry.
