After Robbo announced that all coaches would be here next season....

It appears Matt King is heading back to Warrington to link up with Sam Burgess as an assistant

Love Rugby League understand that Warrington legend Matt King is set for a return to the club next year as part of Sam Burgess’ backroom team.

The former Australian international made 106 appearances for the club in his playing days, spending four years at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and won back-to-back Challenge Cups. In 2009, he scored a hat-trick of tries in the semi-final of the competition to take the club to Wembley for the first time in almost 20 years.

Having returned home and spent time with South Sydney Rabbitohs, he retired at the end of the 2013 season and joined the coaching staff there. Helping them to a 2014 NRL Premiership win, he both played with and coached Burgess, and the pair are set to be re-united in 2024.

I have no problem with this. I wonder if this will mean he’ll end up back at the vermin one day.

Jake Friend knocked back the assistant coach role to concentrate on his plumbing business, but I understand he will still continue in his role as the Sydney Roosters Academy Head Coach.

Good enough. Its a luxury having a first grade coach as the assistant coach.

No great loss as King was responsible for the abomination that was the attack this year.

Seems like Robinson has changed his structure over the years from just attack and defence coach to middles, left edge, right edge.

I don't claim to have any more knowledge than that, just what I've heard from casual talk of people in and around the club. So little bit hard to tell what King's impact is, remember Matt King has been with us 6-7 years so not sure how much of our downturn in attack can be attributed to him but will be interesting to see what changes next year.

Can't believe he had such an important role at Easts. Obviously a decent fella though.
