  • The flaw in the ref's challenge

Ash Klein made a customary mistake. We challenge and it gets overturned. The opposition gets a rest and a chance to reset their defensive line. The side with a successful challenge is heavily disadvantaged.

No system is perfect but I like the captains challenge.
I rather allow the defending team have time to rest and reset then have an attacking team be disadvantaged.
Yes in a perfect world the ref wouldn't make an error.

Bad decisions and rub of the green will always be part of the game, you can't completely eliminate that.

At least the captains challenge goes some way to reducing the rub of the green.

Yeah if anything I'd like it if we dumped the bunker and expanded the scope of the captain's challenge.

For example Harry Grant had no captain's challenge left at the end but lay down for 5 minutes trying to milk a penalty when he wasn't hurt and Walker had clearly tackled him below the shoulders. At some point IMO the ref should have the instructions to say 'I didn't see it mate and you have no challenges left... get up and play or I'll penalise you'. Or.. 'I care about your welfare Harry... HIA!!! Get off and do an HIA with 5 to go' with him then standing up to say 'WTFFFFF?!??? NO NO!!! YOU SHOULD BE PENALISING THEM!!! MY HEAD IS FINE!!! NOBODY TOUCHED MY ROCKSTAR HAIR... SEE... NO HAIRS MOVED!!! OMGGGG!!! AN HIA?!?!?' Response? 'You were the one who asked for it'.

There's 'captain's challenge' and then there's 'appealing to the bunker'. It's the latter that annoys me because the Drizz (mostly Munster) spent the whole game trying

Heck at one point Munster INTENTIONALLY lowered his head into (I think Radley's?) hand, our player then moved his hand away to prevent the blatant milking, grabbed his jersey near the chest and Munster had another go at slipping down. I think he even got a penalty for it, though later in the game the ref even told him 'NO... YOU ARE MILKING IT!!!'

This would make far too much sense. Agree with it all, this is exactly how it should be officiated. Would eradicate the milking and lying down which is a stain on the game.

So last week Suallili and Billy Smith don't stay down ,we get no penalty, there's no sin bin and we lose both players to concussion and broken jaw which heavily affected us for last night's game. We sure get the bad rub of the green.

I'm not sure what point you are making mate. You don't want a skippers challenge as an option?

The opposition should me made to do Burpees whilst they wait for the Bunker to review the challenge.

If you accidentally make contact to a players head when making a tackle with your arm, shoulder, torso regardless of them falling just before contact is made it's a penalty. It can also be put on report, sin bin or send off.

If you accidentally make contact to players head and brake his cheekbone, eye socket etc with your own melon then it's ok, no penalty, play on unlucky son.

                    Flawed rule?

                      1. If you're wrapped up by a defender whilst standing, the referee calls held, you don't hear the call and offload the ball you then get to retain possession and play the ball on the mark. (unless it was the last tackle)

                      2. If you're tackled on the ground, the defender falls off the tackle, you assume that it's play on meanwhile the ref has called held and you either didn't hear the call or it was simultaneous. You are then penalised.

This does happen. Both 1 and 2 occurred when we played the Raiders.

You can't call that a "flaw." Any challenge by anyone involves looking at replays and takes time. Should the defending team be made to keep jogging ion the spot while replays run?

What system do you want to replace the captains challenge with?

I think the most frustrating thing is what Teddy said to the ref. Why give the benefit of the doubt to the attacking team by allowing play on when there is a challenge that allows you to double check. Grant could've challenged it, we couldn't as it was play on. Lack of logic and common sense adding to the fact he missed it blindly despite being 2m away from it.

I would bet this is the one Stat Easts are leading by a mile.

Because refs are so keen to not give us the 50-50 calls, we always win this challenge.

                            I like this rule.

I also the 2 point penalty.

So could Grant have challenged because they had the ball, but we cannot?
