  • Jake Friend's Game Yesterday

I thought Jake Friend's service out of dummy half looked a lot more polished and confident yesterday. The try he set up for Pearce was superb. This was in addition to his usual high work rate.

Maybe the ball to the head was what he needed to lose his inhibitions and play on instinct rather than trying to overthink!

    Well done Jake.

Man that was one of the worst I have ever seen. Usually when something like that happens everyone has a laugh but not after that one. The sound it made was sickening. I'm just glad he's ok.

He was strong. 80mins is starting to suit him, unfortunately at the expense of Ant Mitch and Morts.
Good for the Jets, but not for those two.

I'm still not sold. When we were on their line in the first half every time Pearce caught the ball the defense was right up in his face.

          I agree.

I was listening to the half time wrap up on the radio and Bob Fulton was critical of his slow service. I couldnt get to the game and watched the replay. His second half was better than his first. Overall, apart from the smart play to set up Pearce, it was his usual slow and uncreative service.

Julz, i've stopped trying to figure out what goes through a refs mind since the 10' grandfinal.

Better than normal, a nice pass for the try but he still lacks something.

Full credit for getting up from the blow to the head, the noise it made was sickening he was must be one tough bastard.

The forwards softened them up in the first half.

As a result, he had room to move in the second.

Generally, our forwards are out-playing our backs.

This is unusual as it is normally the backs doing most of the work coming out of our end after kicks.

The game he played yesterday should be the absolute minimum standard for not just him, but any hooker in the NRL.

Played solidly, looked a bit more lively in attack in the 2nd half and his decision making wasn't bad. I did notice the poor passing to Pearce when inside their 20 but that was not the cause of our inability to cross the line in the opening 20 mins when we had all that ball.

Someone really needs to get it through his head though that he is not going to be able to scoot from dummy half through half gaps and score. He is too slow for that. Best to stick with the structure and let Pearce and Anasta run the attack e.g. running a set play to pearce for the try, or the little set move with Mini up the middle (although mini dropped the pass)

He also made less tackles yesterday, which I think is what led to him not being so stuffed come the end of each half. Hopefully this was a planned thing in which he has been told to reduce his workload in defence and not simply a coincidence.

agreed. i do however think that we are all being a little hard on friendy atm anyway. I found it laughable that some of us were spruking rein the other day when really he is a poor man's friend. watching st george closely, all the little ginking before passing that everyone hates about friend is exactly what rein does. They also have a very similar build and general playing style. Freindy is a gem and only 21 as well. Lets get behind these kids as we are going to have 1 hell of a team before not long

On the flip side, I thought Costigan's game from dummy half was atrocious (which I enjoyed immensely!)
