These blokes are playing for a spot in the first grade side. If they don't have the internal motivation to want to work their way into the top team no matter where they're playing then they probably don't have the tools to be a first grader.

I saw him take the line on several times today and he never looked close to getting through a reserve grade defensive line. He doesn't have the pace or size to break the line. He supports well and that's the only way he breaks the line. He also has a good chip and chase in him but doesn't have the pace to capitalise on this. Towards the end of the game today he chipped and regathered on the 20, a faster stronger player would have taken on the fullback and scored, instead he tried to pass when it wasn't on and it got intercepted and norths went downfield and the pressure was released. If he was put at 7 and Pearce was dropped it would take you 2 weeks max to turn around and say he was a useless reserve grader. Your post tells me you're not making an educated judgement on who the better player is out of him and Pearce.

Look Yak I've seen enough of both players and IMO Mortimer is a better attacking player. He tries to create things. All Pearce has is a predictable inside ball and ineffective bombs even his defense is poor these days. At least when Mortimer has the ball you get the feeling that something is on.

Well what you're describing regarding Mortimer's attacking play is simply incorrect. He has positives to his attack but if you understand footy well then you'd realise that they are his short kicking and his support play. When he attacks the line from first receiver he has zero potency and it doesn't at all look like he'll do anything (unless it involves a short kick), especially close to the line. So I apologise, maybe you are making an educated judgement, you obviously just don't have a good football brain.

He had plenty of potency in 2009. The guy has a lot of talent most of it untapped. It will freeze over in Hell before Pearce becomes the player you lot make him out to be.
