ONCE AGAIN, I was never against mini's re-signing, i just think he would kill it back on the wing and isn't up to standard as a fullback these days.
He can't catch an inside ball, he can't break the line and he just isn't quick enough to be a fullback in this day and age when they need to be super fast and able to handle the ball aswell.
And before the inevitable dribbling saying "Oh but what about the merge game?"....Like i've said, Yes he had a good game but what about the 30 before that? ...Below par imo!
Some of you carrnts are kidding yourselves.
One good game and you've got your coqqs in your hand again. I however, don't have such a short memory or rose coloured glasses on.
I love Mini, always will. I'll never forget what he's done for my beloved chooks but i'm a realist and those days are over.
I still think he's got something to offer on the wing though because he's a good finisher and safe as house's under the high ball.
I remember him being heavily criticised last year and even earlier this year about his passing and ball skills. Intersting that after some of the best link-play you'll see that's gone quiet. That zinging cut-out to perrett for his try yesterday was a screamer and under pressure not to mention it was mini's second handle of the footy in that passage of play on different sides of the field.
He is starting to get back to his old self with his kick returns bouncing off players and always looking like he is about to sneak through a hole. In all honesty, a 1 year extension was conservative on our part with the form he is currently in. All power to mini.
I almost might add that our backline is starting to look magical. Tagive has given us exactly what we needed to round-off our back 3 and SKD and leilua are starting to build towards explosive form. As good as it would be to see Moga in firsts this year, Im more than happy to see the same backline take the field for the rest of the season particularly as he is unlikely to be 100% at all this year. In addition, credit must go to anasta as well yesterday. From the perfectly executed short kick-off to some decent work on and off the ball, he had a pretty solid game imo and we are really benefiting from him playing second fiddle and allowing pearce to reign supreme. As good as it would be to see mortimer back in 6, Anasta does not deserve to be dropped and nor does one of our forwards if we were to move anasta back into the pack. So unless we pick him as a utility on the bench, mortimer is going to have to bide his time a little longer

Mind you, he's still got a few more of those performances before he's back to the Mini of old imo.
