But back on topic, I'm glad he's re-signed for a year, maybe next year we'll send him off with the grand final victory dream.
Ah, now THAT would be good. Grand final wins with the Roosters more than 10 years apart. Can't imagine anyone has done that before!

      - He basically doesn't even count towards our salary cap.
      - I reckon still one of the top 10 FBs in the game which is pretty good to have when there's only 16 teams (sure Slater, Dugan, Stewart, Boyd and Hayne are better... sometimes... but so what? Coote, Locke, Zillman, Barba... any other FBs and you're REALLY scraping the barrel!)
That's a weird thing to say.

Wouldn't it be the other way around because of the fact there's only 16 teams?

The removal of a necrotic limb from the Roosters will help.

        (Yes, it's him)

same old crap from this club, Mini just doesn't have the tools of a modern NRL fullback.
Harsh. Guys like him should be entitled to retire on their own terms at the club they love. He will forever be known as a Rooster and I think even opposition fans would want him to go out that way. The salary cap has destroyed much of the goodwill in the game.

                No?
16 teams and less than 15 FBs as good as Mini. Many clubs make do with a FB who is not as good as Mini (or just use a winger because they don't have a FB... ala the Dragons.)

SO QUIT COMPLAINING!!!! Without Mini who would be FB? (Granted Boyd, Slater, Dugan and Hayne are happy with their respective clubs.)

Nobody who would realistically sign with the Roosters is better than Mini. And if we did sign say Matt Bowen (who isn't as good as Mini), we'd then have to punt a young star such as JWH, Pearce, Leilua...etc.

Mini doesn't count under the cap so it's a win/win situation. Top 10 fullback and we can keep JWH!

Good to see Mini will get to go out on his terms but if we're honest with ourselves and base our judgements on the past 2 years and not just last weeks performance then it's pretty obvious that Mini is not good enough to be a modern day fullback. I love the bloke but these days your fullback needs to be able to ball play and preferably tackle. Mini is probably the worst fullback in the comp at these to facets. By the end of the year I think RTS will be ready for first grade in some form. Probably on the wing to start. How do you think it would work to have Mini play fullback in defence and for RTS to switch with him after the kick return so we have some extra potency in attack. I know you'll miss out on RTS's kick returns which in terms of metres after gathering are much better than Mini's but that is an element that Mini seems to have improved on this year to some degree, and he probably makes up for it somewhat with his good positional play. Do you think this would aid or hinder RTS's development into the fullback spot. I just worry that with him coming off contract at the end of next year it may be best to give him some sort of opportunity just to give him a taste. Once he's ready to take on the fullback role completely Mini shifts to the wing and nothing is lost. This is the only way I can see us doing well next year because your potency at fullback is so important now.

                    All good points, Yak.
I have been thinking along those lines all year. Can't beat experience to help train the new kids.

                      Settle, petal.

Call me daft but it still doesn't make sense to me.

I was never against the re-signing of Mini, i just want him to go back to the wing instead of fullback.

I personally think SKD would make an alright fullback with a bit of room to move and chiming into the backline. He also wouldn't be getting caught out in defence as often either. The only thing that would worry me is how he would go under the high ball. He's slightly taller than most though, so that's a start.

                        Silly re-signing.

Remember that people (including myself) were happy when Captain Fantastic re-signed.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Mini should have bowed out or gone to England for the cash.

                            SKD at fullback ????????????????

Apart from being a noted non-defender , and the occasional fend, he has no fullback traits in him.

His passing is comedic at best and in the Justin Carney rank. His ball handling is the worst in our team along side of BJ, the oppostion would have a repeat set of six every time he has a kick return.

I do however agree with you on Mini to the wing. I think we should try something we did in 2010 and have our back line rotating throughout the match. I remember sometimes aubo would move into centre or even wing and perret would move infield. We did score some tries off that from memory.

Not the first time this has been suggested.
Defense? SKD is woeful, but then again Mini hasn't been setting the world on fire with his tackling of late, either.
Just for sh#ts & giggles I am intrigued as to how this would turn out, given that SKD can bust a tackle & hit the line pretty well. That's what the modern day fullback is all about imo.

If we have to have a mufti day for experiments, why not?

If we ever get into the 09 situation, then maybe.

We tried having Banasta play fullback, so why not?
