If we had a play at someone like stewart, then good but we don't. Mini is our best option imo until we have someone like slater, stewart etc. and don't remind me i AM used to all the young guys coming thru with tags all over em that produce nothing. Mini is tried and tested
He made 1 linebreak in the st merge match.Wooptidooo.
Some fullbacks average 2 a game (Slater, Locke etc). That's probably the first he's made in a while as well.
He makes up for it in being good under the high ball and I think he's 2nd or 3rd in the comp for support runs. Also 2nd I think in total run metres in the comp. Perrett's 1st in the comp for metres btw.
I don't want to see Mini on the wing.
Imagine Mini and Pez as our wingers. No pace and no penetration. The oldest and slowest wings in the comp.
I can see the reason for keeping Mini for an extra year as we really have nobody ready for the fullback spot to replace him and he wouldn't cost as that much as a long serving player. But I fear it will be another long year.
I can't see us chasing the Fish with this announcement.
So if it is Mini, which Weidler has already announced, what is the club going to do with Pez, if he is also re-signed, that will halve the long service concession money, it will also hold up the advancement of one of the young guys, probably RTS, me thinks Pez may not be on the keeper list!? I would be very happy with Mini & Tagive on the wings with RTS at the back, thoughts?
im all for this signing. yeh mini is a little past it but at least you know he'll try his guts out, be a good role model and be the ultimate professional. his love for the club aas well as the long service thingy means that club would have him on books for a bargain.
It is becoming clear that the club is looking to invest in youth and our prospects for fullback are all too young and raw and are not ready. if we were to sign another fullback for a 3 yr deal it puts in jeopardy the future of the likes of RTS at the club not to mention that there is not too much out there and would cost big $$$.
If RTS progresses quicker than expected mini can always play wing.
What he said !
Despite being in the minority, I think its a good signing for one more year, which will allow time for RTS to develop (assuming he is the annoited one)
I don't think he offers what a modern fullback needs to offer, but I can't begrudge him another year. He is a Rooster's legend and it would kill me to see him running around in another NRL clubs colours.
His form is solid without being spectacular. Hopefully he can maintain the level he has been playing in the last 4 matches.
If there was nothing better available on the market, I would rather go with Mini as the option until there is.
The Fish and Brett Morris are much faster and much more exciting to watch, but Mini outplayed both of them in the headto-head matches this year.
