Sydney Roosters will give fullback Anthony Minichiello a 14th season with the club.

The veteran, who has been a mainstay at the Roosters since 2000, has signed a one-year deal with the club. The re-signing will be announced today.

There have been some doubts about whether Minichiello would continue into next season with the club, but the form of the 31-year-old made that decision relatively easy. The Roosters had been on the lookout for fullbacks, courting Manly's Brett Stewart, but Minichiello has been one of the form No.1s in the competition this season, and that has handed him a new deal.

The new deal means Minichiello, who has played 18 Tests and 11 State of Origins for NSW, will almost certainly be a Rooster for life. It is thought that he will retire at the end of next season, ignoring the big money on offer overseas.

The Roosters have a young side this year and Minichiello's experience has been invaluable. With five-eighth James Maloney signed for next year and the club likely to secure Sonny Bill Williams, coach Brian Smith is building a formidable squad.

Better to go one year too early than one year too late

Mini has chosen the latter and it is probably the least admirable thing he has done in a storied career

He still has some kick left in him.

At least it's not Jake the Rake.

im all for this signing. yeh mini is a little past it but at least you know he'll try his guts out, be a good role model and be the ultimate professional. his love for the club aas well as the long service thingy means that club would have him on books for a bargain.
It is becoming clear that the club is looking to invest in youth and our prospects for fullback are all too young and raw and are not ready. if we were to sign another fullback for a 3 yr deal it puts in jeopardy the future of the likes of RTS at the club not to mention that there is not too much out there and would cost big $$$.
If RTS progresses quicker than expected mini can always play wing.

I can cop him on the wing, it's actually a good idea having him there if he is mentoring a couple of young fullbacks.

If he is at fullback though it will just be another wasted year.

                exactly.

Keeping a bloke around who was hands down the best fullback in the world until he injured his back to show the ropes to RTS is a good move

Mini's mates in the media earned him another gig.

I just pray to god it's not the mad scientist Smith extending his contract.

So if it is Mini, which Weidler has already announced, what is the club going to do with Pez, if he is also re-signed, that will halve the long service concession money, it will also hold up the advancement of one of the young guys, probably RTS, me thinks Pez may not be on the keeper list!? I would be very happy with Mini & Tagive on the wings with RTS at the back, thoughts?

Politis will be paying for that back injury for the rest of his life

                          Phew, only 1 year:

Anthony Minichiello ... will stay in Bondi for another season. Source: Gregg Porteous / News Limited

Veteran Sydney Roosters fullback Anthony Minichiello has agreed to a new one-year deal that will ensure he goes around for the NRL club for a 14th successive season in 2013.

The 2005 Golden Boot winner had looked set to leave the Roosters at the end of this campaign, but a consistent start to the season has persuaded the board to offer the former Kangaroos and NSW star a contract.

Roosters chief executive Steve Noyce will officially announce the 31-year-old's new deal on Friday afternoon

                            GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait for another year of "MINI SHOULD HAVE RETIRED", or "OUR CLUB SHOULD NOT HAVE RESIGNED MINI" threads.

I think next year, he'll be this years Banasta.

Who was the player who was most hated last year by the way? I'm guessing either Riddell or Watts..........

I think Perrett could be gone.
