Didn’t Fattrell miss a semi or a prelim with us in 2018 for picking up a player ) parra I think ) and slam him into the turf?

To be fair I think the criticism of Latrell is well overdue.
Yeah he has some flashy plays when they are on the front foot but his effort areas at fullback are putrid and always have been. It’s honestly not NRL standard, and the fact he has gotten away with it with no real criticism as of yet always suprised me. Usually they use the old ‘he is a different style of fullback’ or ‘he can do things other fullbacks can’t’ to let him off the hook. But the video of him against the knights doing the rounds is not an isolated incident and looks like someone not invested.
He looks super unfit. He would have to be at least 110-115kg and sloppy, it’s evident he doesn’t have same conditioning expectations as the rest of the squad.
I find it a little sad. He is of the TPJ & Schuster mould where they have all this unmatched talent, yet lack that competitive drive that could make them great. Imagine someone like a Josh Reynolds, who would compete on everything and grinded out a semi-successful NRL career with very little talent, with the same attributes as those 3. He would be an immortal!
Attitude is everything and Trell’s attitude stinks. He is arrogant and I’m glad he is gone from our club.
At the end of the day, say what you want about him killing us over the years since he has left, and lord knows we have missed his strike power, but at the end of the day he has done more to COST Souffs premierships than any player. They had a red hot side with a generational club legend half back as they steamrolled into the finals, yet they had to do it with a rookie fullback because Latrell rubbed himself out for 6 weeks for foul play.
In previous seasons, he has looked totally unfit in crunch games and let his team down when they were in arm-wrestle contests. Last finals series being a good example. Its good for us because its Souffs that he is hurting with his performances, the club is a protected species so nobody talks about it but you could argue he has been a complete dud for them apart from the fact he towels us up every time we play them. That club was making prelims before Latrell joined and now they look further away from a comp than they do from winning one.
If his contract objectives were to weaken the Roosters and beat the Roosters in one-off games and weaken us for leaving, he has succeeded with flying colours. If his objectives were to actually help Souffs win a premiership and become a consistent force, he has failed dismally, and it can be argued they have stayed at the level they're at in spite of him not because of him.Last edited by HunchoRooster; 08-22-2023, 04:57 PM.

surprised they didn't fight it. maybe the argument is that it means they're sure to have him if they make the finals but they'll struggle without him v us. he probably didn't have a case but the what the mrc sees isn't always the same as what the judiciary sees

All of Reddit was championing him as NSW's best fullback (if fit) for origin. It goes to show how little the average fan sees in the game.
Latrell, as a fullback in my eyes, is somewhat of a "win more" player. He can be that extra x-factor to absolutely put the cleaners through a team when his side is already ahead, but he isn't the fullback I'd want in a grinding, low-scoring affair against a top side. He has always been a more natural centre.
The effort in the viral video of him is genuinely embarrassing.
I don't really hate Latrell (aside from when he plays against us) and do love watching him play. I hope he shifts back to centre if his ego can take it, or gets himself fit and starts being a more consistent fullback.

In the NRL era we have played them 49 times for 30 wins to their 19.
I hate you for making me google that. I now know what it feels like to be in Sally’s shoes!“Soon will the present day order be rolled up, and a new one spread out in its stead”- (Baha’u’llah)

What he seems to lack that other greats have is the motivation to stick to a routine and be consistent with his approach week in and week out. This goes back to what you said earlier about conditioning and training. He is not an 8/10 player as they say He will either be a 9 or 10/10 or a 3/10. He is either in red hot form smashing blokes and running over the top of teams to win you a game, or he is lazy, disinterested and slow. It seems like he struggles to turn the switch on and off, sometimes he is too extreme as we have seen with the Joey Manu incident. He is certainly arrogant and has a level of narcissism about him. He loves the spotlight on him, but not the negativity that comes with it.

A player like Johnathan Thurston comes to mind. He would leave it all out on the field whether he was at training, playing in a trial or rep game. It wouldn’t matter if he was up or down by 40, there effort would be the same. When you have that competitive drive, taking the easy route like Latrell does, isn’t an option. His current fitness level doesn’t help, but you won’t hear me feeling sorry for him. It’s literally his job to be fit. When you have that competitive drive, motivation follows imo.
