    Jake friend v simon bonetti

    I have been interested to hear alot of fellow supporters bashing Jake Friend on this site in regards to his lack of creativity and speed around the ruck,hence stagnating our attack.
    Obviously one of his strenghts has been his defensive game,which has come under scrutiny on this site also.
    Which brings me to my topic..
    Simon Bonetti was loved amongst Roosters fans whom i believe was a very similar hooker to Jake Friend,both strong defensively but slow on their feet.
    So why were we so enamoured with Bonetti but not Friend?
    Simonn wasnt flash when he came onto the scene but gradually improved as the years went on,surely Friend deserves the same latitude?!

    i said this exact thing not that long ago on here. i guess the game has changed since then. fact is that i so honestly believe that friend has way more strings to his bow than bonetti did. he can kick from dummy-half, target a short-side and has a great footy brain

      The truth is this. Many on here will have a cry and go at me but here it is.

      Bonetti looked good because of Freddy.

        Bonetti only looked good in 2002.

          I dont think Friend is great,but he has more potential than Bonetti ever had!

          In regards to looking good because of Freddy,that could be said about many players during our dream run!

              Simon Bonetti didn't have a great attacking game but his passing/service was second to none.

              Where as Jake Friend's indecision when passing at times has been a major critical point from most fans on here.

                  I had bonetti as one of my fave players, he was one of the only italian named players to play first grade consistantly at the time ! Loved him !

                  He was the Old school hooker, defence was the name of the hooking game back then, that and Good service...... from dummy half.

                  Friend is now in the era of dummy halves that need to be another half in essence. friend has shown signs he can do that, but really, he has been off the boil this year.... in a BIG WAY !

                  So to sumarise..... Anthony Mitchell needs to be in First Grade !!!!

                    I call Jake Friend as league's answer to George Gregan.

                    George "the step machine" Gregan killed the Wallabies attack and Jake Friend is doing the same.

                      His service from dummy half was superb.

                      He was an old school hooker and he knew his time in the game was expired because of the ten metre rule.

                        I'm pretty sure I remember him exalting the grind of the old school hooker.

                        Simon Bonetti took after Benny Elias, on the field at least.

                          I think it's what you honestly believe but it definately is not fact. He does not have a great footy brain he is a solid tough player & thats it. He has nowhere near the vision off players like Smith, Farrah, Ballin, Ennis, De Geois or even Mitchell for that matter.
