Good on us, we’ve had more members with each year. I remember when we were celebrating reaching 15000. Easts to Win

It honestly makes me not only laugh, but makes me wwhy are NRL memberships so pathetically poor?
All AFL clubs have that as a minimum & if you take out the few imposter clubs like GWS & the Suns the lowest clubs have well over double that with several of them having over 100,000 members. Why are they so terribly low,how come NRL clubs (none of them) attract a decent supporter & membership base?

Certainly not all of the reason, but I think part of the reason is due to AFL being a game that is better viewed at the ground, where for example you can see where the player is kicking to downfield. As compared with League which is better viewed on TV with all the action taking place in a small space instead of trying to watch it from the top deck at ANZ 100m away.

And then having bigger crowds builds on itself, where it's a better experience for the casual fan or young people going to an AFL game with a big crowd than going to ANZ with a crowd of 11,000

That’s great news even though we’re having a sub par season it hasn’t turned away the true supporters well done to each and every one of you.

It has never been a big thing to be a member of a football club in Sydney as it was in Melbourne going back to the days of the NSWRL and VFL Comps.

That has progressed to high membership numbers in AFL compared to NRL membership numbers although NRL Membership numbers have improved over time

The two lowest club membership numbers in AFL in 2022 were Gold Coast Suns 21, 422 and GWS Giants 32.614 - West Coast Eagles 102,897 and Richmond Tigers 100,792 were the top 2

The two lowest club membership numbers in the NRL in 2022 were Cronulla 13,000 and Manly 13.295 - Gold Coast didn't provide membership numbers and I figure they would have been the lowest - Storm 40,122 and Brisbane 36,516 were the top 2

We being members of the Sydney Roosters and Richmond Tigers there is little difference in what you receive in your membership packs so that isn't a factor that attracts more people to sign up as members of AFL Clubs.

Only difference is Richmond allows you to choose if you want the hat or a voucher to value of the hat which you can use to purchase other merchandise on line through the Richmond Tigers online store.

One also has to take into account unlike NRL clubs and even going back to the NSWRL days VFL clubs had social clubs and no poker machines so they were very much reliant on the revenue from memberships and folk attending games, going back to the social cubs after games and buying merchandise etc.

They'd need to improve in order to sustain the numbers for 2024 and beyond.

They showed a fan video to the players in which members shared their thoughts about what the Roosters mean to them. One guy paid special tribute to Drew Hutchison, describing him as the greatest utility in the NRL. The players all laughed.

That definitely helps their numbers, no two legs restrictions.

Also you dont necessarily have to be still alive to be counted in their mship numbers, helps as well.

I also think the sports model in NSW is pathetic overall. Living in country NSW in a few different towns where I have been involved in footy & cricket there is no such thing as clubs being real clubs where as a player or member you spend all your time. For instance wherever I have been clubs train then go home or go to a pub who sponsors them for dinner & then on Saturday Sunday afyer a game players go back to pubs for drinks, dinner & awards.
in SA while I was there on a Thursday after training there would be 200 people staying at the club until midnight to have drinks, dinner & to wait for team selection. If you weren't there you didn't get picked for the game.Saturday afyer the game you had all teams at the club for awards, dinner & drinks again until close. We had full bar staff, managers etc & players only got paid match payments if they stated at the club for the awards & dinner. This meant the club was turning over 1000s & 1000s a week & ram as a business whereas every where I've been in NSW its the sponsors that get patronage while clubs make nothing. At a country club in SA we had sponsors putting in $50k plus for scoreboard, jersey space & then the clubs ran as successful businesses.
I also believe the sports club model in SA/Vic is better where you can't be separate entities so to gave senior footy trams you also must have a connected netball club meaning you had 100s of members, players & family there several nights a week.
