Robbo clearly wanted to bring Walker back into the fold if not for the injury, despite saying he needed to go away and work on game management and running the reserve grade side. It was impossible to do that with the tiny amount of footy he played in NSW Cup, so in other words, Robbo went back on what he originally had said.
I dont know why you're going on about this. Its ok to be wrong/mistaken....just wear it.The more amount of mumbo jumbo you go on with the bigger the hole you are digging.

Here's the facts - Robinson stated at the time that he dropped Walker so he could regain confidence and work on parts of his game that have been lacking. He also said there was no timeline on how long Walker would remain in reserve grade.

In the end better players than Walker have been dropped- just think of Latrell and Manu. Walker didn't kick cans- he said he would work harder and get back to his best and make it back to first grade- i'm backing him because he has extraordinary talent, just 21 years old, has right attitude and we need him at his best

Bryan Fletcher told some great Gus stories on the the hello sport podcast and even some funny Ricky Stuart stories when he was coach. Fletch told the story about how he got sacked by the club for making a goose of himself at an end of year function and Gus told him not to worry just to turn up to preseason training anyway lol

Sean Garlick was on The Fan reminiscing about the famous day Gus wanted to bring the team off the field while we were winning the game.

Has Walker regained confidence and worked on the parts of his game lacking in the handful of minutes he played in ressies before the injury? I would suspect not yet Robbo will bring him back into the fold at first available opportunity. Thus making his dropping even more bizarre and unnecessary. I will admit defeat/be proven wrong if he is named to play NSW Cup for a few games once he is fully fit.

yeah you would think that he could fix his “faults” while playing firsts, the coach would give instructions on what he needs to improve or change, and go from there.

unless that was all already discussed and Walker wasn’t doing what was asked of him, that would be the only reason for dropping him, unless there was more going on.

robbo never ruled out walker from being named in a given week's team. in answer to a question about whether he would play in firsts after the anzac day game he didn't rule it out. sam was dropped so he could work on a few things but, robbo said, it's not just about sam working on things it's also about who's available and what the team needs. i don't think it's clear cut he was being dropped for a long time

If only our defence was as persistent as this thread. My thoughts are that Robbo believed our 2 halves were too small to defend together so he put a big body in Manu in there. Robbo always sides with the old boys over our young guns, so au Revoir Sam. I don't know if it improved our defence but it shot our attack to bits. Would he have put Sam back in if he wasn't injured? Judging by Robbo's selections this year, probably not. The 'working on his game' excuse sounds like a load of crap to me.

Didn't play Magic Round against Souffs ressies due to "illness" (this was the round he had speculation that he met with Bennett and wanted a release) and was then a late withdrawal against the Riff the week after that. He hasn't played footy since Round 9 against Warriors ressies in NZ.
Wrong, typical internet crap. Firstl, he also played a full game against the Dragons the week before the NZ game.
Secondly we will never know whether it was a good or a bad decision because the "illness" etc was a knee injury sustained at training with the NRL squad.

I don't think I'm trying to break down the fundamentals of quantum physics with this one.

Sam Walker was dropped on the week of the ANZAC Day game despite not being anywhere near the worst offender form-wise in the team....

Robinson said he needed a stint in reserve grade to run a side and make a side his own, or words to that effect...

Sam Walker played no more than 1.5 games of reserve grade before getting injured...

So if Robinson were to pick him when deemed fit, (assuming after the bye round), he has gone back on his rationale for dropping because nobody would be able to "run a side" or make a side their own and develop key skills in 1.5 games of reserve grade.

In other words, he is no better off now than he was when he was dropped and most importantly the team is no better off now than when he was dropped. He will be fast-tracked back into the side from injury and be the same player he was before he was dropped (which is a good player). He shouldn't have been dropped in the first place in my opinion but Robbo's reasoning is all the more puzzling and is proof he is totally lost for answers after his Manu experiment failed.

The only highlight of the season for me is the emergence of Sandon Smith ironically. I look forward to Sam and he playing together although I sense Sandon will be sent back down to reserve grade and the 14 jersey will go to Drew Robinson.

I wonder if he will do the podcast about the 2001 qualifying final and how Newcastle somehow got a copy of the Roosters game plan
