He should never have been made coach of the Roosters back in 2007. He was always better off being a clown with his channel 9 mates.

Next up coach likely Ch 9 identity Joey John’s and his assistant being Danika Mason.

        Johns is not the answer.

I would have had the Mad Scientist as firm favourite to take over the NSW reins next year after this Shitler debacle but he was just appointed Titans coach.

        Who is "next coach up"??

One of the journos on NRL360 mentioned Michael Ennis as a Blues coaching candidate.

          Thoughts?? I'm ambivalent TBH.
Does one have to have hands-on NRL experience to coach a rep team?

I love Freddy, and I get most (not all) of his team selections but he does do some baffling in-game decisions re interchanges. He is no coach. Problem is, who will be better? Need someone super passionate, quite technical and well respected. Ennis maybe. No one else really springs to mind.

Couldn't do worse. Notice how Queensland's coach and assistants have all played at the top level in the last 10 years. NSW have Fittler, Alexander, McGregor and Johns who haven't laced a boot in closer to 20 years. The game has passed them by and they need people who are in tune with the modern game.

Slater is a rookie coach, however I think he's been made to look great because of poor selections/motivation by the Blues. Luai's instagram post shows he doesn't care much for the Blues jersey. Every queersland player would die for their state. I doubt many NSW players would feel the same.

meninga failed as a club coach but became a great origin coach and i thought freddy would take the same path but it hasn't worked out. to be fair if latrell and turbo had been fit the last two year it would have been a different story

I think Freddy may make a really good assistant, and I don't think he is without any coaching ability at all. He made some utterly bizarre decisions last night though, and has been baited terribly into this "club combinations" rhetoric when it comes to Origin.

Slater, Smith and Cronk did not dominate Origin for the better part of a decade because they played at the same club. They dominated because they're all immortals. You pick your best players available, and if they happen to have combinations at club, then that's a little bonus. You also don't necessarily reactively choose whatever player happens to be in good form at the time - you need to have a read on personalities and know who is going to perform to a high level whenever they're picked, even when they're out of form, and who it means the most to.

Cherry-Evans has been out of form in club-land a few times, but QLD have never dropped him. Because he's a known-quantity and you know what you'll get from him. He'll play at least a 7/10 basically every origin he plays.

Anyway, that was just a few of my thoughts. I've never seen a team dominate every aspect of the game so much in terms of yardage and possession, and then lose on the scoreboard so heavily.

I don't know how you all feel, but I'd be putting the red felt pen through Luai, Frizell (just because he's too old) and Yeo. Would be watching Fox, Stephen Crichton and Young very closely as well. Not sold on any of their places.
Agree with Yeo , a very ordinary and overrated player. Does not offer much , just catches and passes . Give me Radley any day of the week.

With all due respect Zac anyone could have coached that qld team with Smith,Thurston,Slater,Cronk and Inglis and had success. They were by far the best league team I've watched in over 50 years of following the game.
Fittlers record at origin coaching will stand at 3 from 6 when in all honesty with the players he had they should have won 5 of those series.
Playing a hooker in the centres was the death-knell for his reign at the helm.

Origin is a series based on hate.
                          Nothing more, nothing less.

Earthing, calmness, insight…….are meaningless in rugby league and this level of competitive sport.
Particularly concerning is the lack of contingency around the Turbo injury last night. Cook in the centres for the whole match was not a solution.

When Lindsay Collins’s( who played like a different person) made an effective tackle close to the line Slater pounds the glass in the coaching box and declares” he is fuc.ing QLD boy!”

The disparity in intensity between the two coaches is quite remarkable. Polar opposites in fact.

Clubs would be bending over backwards to sign Slater, and why not?
Fittler on the other hand won’t be coaching in the NRL ever and will get the axe at the end of this series.
Lets not try and kid ourselves for one second, Gus Gould is the guy overseeing most decisions for NSW and has for a while...

Cook as a centre is/was a massive LOL....the only thing Cooked is Freddy's brain...completely fried.

The only thing Freddy can correctly position is powdered lines up his nose....allegedly of course...

Freddys backroom assistant staff are dreadful, the heads of Brandy Joey and McGregor should roll first , how they skate through beggars belief. Ever since Fitzgibbon left too , swiss cheese defence .
Alexanders a huge influence to Fittler's detriment . He has this weird love affair with "Tommy" and "Cam" - injured but still picked totally farked up the whole bloody thing ! ! ! Complete waste of everybodys time because this bloke cant get tommy and cam out of his head.

Fittler has absolutely zero ability to command a squad. Every team he is involved with turns into an “inmates running the asylum” situation almost immediately.

I knew NSW were going to get towelled up on Wednesday the moment that ridiculous video of the team bus was posted by Brandy. To see all the players blasting music, playing cards, and generally acting like school kids shows they had zero respect for the task at hand. My opinion was cemented when they showed them on the traditional game morning walk where they were again just clowning around like toddlers.

There is not a ****ing chance that Slater would put up with such shit in his camp, nor would the Queensland players even think to try it on as they actually have respect for the jersey they wear
