Those getting their hopes up because of Hooper saying we could be in for him......you do realise he's just been reading the Pen and has no inside knowledge. I would back Grubber over him any day!
I absolutely do realise that he is a dipsh-t of the highest order and his word means absoliutely nothing.

I'm not getting my hopes up or gauging it off of Cue Ball's intel, i'm just saying purely from an on-field footy POV, Hunt would add great value to ANY team, especially ours and we lack what he brings to a side...

I'd be all for signing him and would love to see why people would be against his signing (apart from the threat of losing Walker, which is a concern I share), given he is probably the 3rd best halfback in the comp and daylight ahead of most others.

Nah you can't all be idiots. I just want someone to explain to me from an on-field perspective how signing Hunt would not be a good thing.

Would be only a rung under signing Cronk.

          Hunt couldn't tie Hastings bootlaces.

I'd take Hunt only on the cheap to play 9/14. Nothing else

Guess I’m an idiot. So we lose Sam Walker to accommodate him for 18 months do we?

Because he's 34 years old and will only be a short term fix. I don't want to run the risk of losing Walker or even Sandon Smith to give an ageing veteran one last hurrah. And please don't compare him to Cronk, because he's not Cronk and never will be

I think some people on here haven't watched many Dragons games over the last couple of years. The guy has been one of the best players on the field in just about all of their games for the last several years.

From an objective point of view, we'd be immediately a lot stronger if we signed him. That being said, I understand the fear of losing Walker long-term.

Hunt would also bring leadership - something we have been lacking since the retirements of Cordner/Friend/Aubs/Cronk ...

We don't need band aid solutions like Hunt.
He can't fix what's wrong with the team, and isn't in for the long haul.

He's a Strom nuftie but one halfback that goes alright is Jarome Hughes.

I'll be sticking with the Kez/Walker/Sandon crowd though.
Formerly Stringaz, from the old Wall!

Based off relative scaling of the current personnel in the comp, he is the closest you will get to Cronk given Coops has retired. Is he as good as him? Absolutely not. Not many are. But off what is available on the market and who is running around currently, he is in the Top 3 halves in the comp.

He brings leadership, determination, game management and a long kicking game. Things we are sorely lacking. Sam Walker could learn from him and should be apart of our plans. Given he was dropped for Joey Manu to play 6, I think sending him to 14 for Ben Hunt makes more sense than what was done earlier in the year.

Would you take a premiership in 2024 if it meant losing Sam Walker? I would as they don't come around too often.

This. He is an oustanding footy player and has the courage and tenacity of a Cronk/Friend. We sorely miss it. Literally a one-man team at times when he plays for St George.

He is motivated to win a premiership clearly otherwise he'd just continue to sit on a huge contract down there and lap up the plaudits of being their best player.

I would if it meant winning a premiership. Ideally, I don't want Sam going anywhere, which is what I said in my follow-up post. The club haven't done a good job with him recently without Ben Hunt.

I don't just want a short term fix to win a premiership. I want to create another 10 year dynasty with the potential for more than one premiership.
