As an ex-sprinter my only caveat to all these discussions is that I dunno if straight line speed is THAT important in the NRL. I know the Fox is an exception but when I think about 'footy speed' I picture guys like the Cheese, Teddy, Grant, Munster, Ponga...etc. Teddy would be up there. Him or Grant maybe?

I know he's outta favour with lotsa fans but IMO Cheese would have our fastest, most evasive ball players. He's shown this 2 or 3 times this year and is unstoppable when he catches you sleeping. He'll lure you in with all his funny faces too. Has just had horrible luck with injuries.
Teddy in his prime was one definitely one of, if not THE fastest off the mark in the game. Not the 100 meters though.

Toops would surely be our quickest over 100m, or perhaps Suualii.

I heard that Connor Watson (at least, pre knee injury) goes alright in a 50m or 100m dash too.

Pearce used to be really quick back in the day, and would regularly run down opposition outside backs.

Fastest in the game off the mark / over 50 meters would surely be Addo Carr.

The fastest man on the planet got gassed by the hammer in Origen
mans teddy copped it for missing the tackle
allthough jac missed him to start and that’s the only reason jac is in nsw team with pace as he doesn’t offer anything under the high ball or mtrs like to’o and Tupou

Yeah Pearce has really good technique...

I honestly dunno who's the fastest over 100m but sure, some of the ones that have been mentioned? JAC, Saab or Hammer?

Not sure where Roberts is at but he's one I always questioned claims he was super fast as his technique's shyte (and if he'd done the times they always said, he'd hold state records...etc, which I just find really unlikely for a guy with a really stiff technique like him). IMO a lot of the guys they say can run mid-10's probably just based this off hand times at school carnivals. I've seen parents try to tell me they've clocked kids at sub-10 on grass (for example). There's a lot of BS going around about 100m times. Also... other than an intercept try from in-goal, when are you gonna run 100m in a footy game?

With Teddy I think he's still fast off the mark and chabges direction quickly. Same with Cheese. IMO Cheese wouldn't win any 50m/100m records but he changes his angle quicker than just about anybody. IMO this is way more important than 50/100m times when playing footy.

Jenko was explosive off the mark. His try in the 2013 grand final was mind blowing!

I'd also throw in a few of the ex-Rugby 7s players as well i.e. William Warbrick and Lachie Miller

Rugby 7s is all speed and evasiveness and majority of their prep involves sprint work and endurance.

                Just a thought.

We haven't had a genuine speedster since Jenko left

                    Agree

Dominic Young has that element of explosiveness about him.

Certainly not from chasing down the handbrake.

1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Dom Young was reeling in Manu VERY quickly when Joey scored that try. He looked pretty quick when he scored his own as well.

Reece Walsh looks pretty bloody fast, certainly over a short distance.

Toops doesn't look like he's moving that quickly, but I think he may be deceptive. I've actually heard that Nat Butcher is the 2nd fastest guy in our squad, but I don't know what distance that was over.
