This reeks of desperation by a club in the mist of salary cap issues / trouble / a rebuild?

Pearce as Captain / Coach of our Reggies = yes.

There are no cap issues. If it's broken, replace it.. it's just the way Robbo operates and Uncle Nick supports it. The reports of a big clean out of players coming off contract is true. It's also likely that JS will head over to RU early and Sam Walker will head south end of 2024 if not sooner.

It's a really weird signing if true. I actually think Pearcey would be a better utility than a halfback at this stage in the NRL. Always had fantastic defence and can do good things when he isn't first receiver and expected to be the general of the side... with that said, the bloke would be 35 years old, is not the Cronk or Cam Smith style 35 year old either.

Would be a very very strange signing and one that I would struggle to justify from both parties. I agree with the CH9 panel in the clip you posted. Why would Pearce himself want to leave? Surely his relationship with Robbo or the club is a little fractured given his exit? Secondly, why would us as a club even want him at 35 years old? It reeks of something a team running last would do.

If Sam Walker isn't our halfback next year, it needs to be because we have gone out and signed an ELITE halfback in an attempt to turn our fortunes around. Given there are only about 4-5 ELITE halfbacks in the entire comp and they are all under contract next year, that is unlikely to happen. Sam is the future.

If we could just bring him on to
kick the ball at the end of our sets then take him straight off I’d be in favour of this

On the plus side we get to go shopping and who doesn't like shopping. My favourite shopping spree was 2012 for the 2013 team.

Take the articles about JS and SW with a grain of salt. Simple speculation from the Mole and picked up by staff writers on other sites

I’m not a fan of Gould but he is spot on with this one..

Sam Walker is the future and signing Mitch Pearce makes no sense in any way shape or form..

But what scares me is Robbo’s thinking at the moment, his decisions lately have been mind boggling and what makes sense to us is opposite to what he is doing..

I don't understand how this can happen.
He knocked back $750 K per season for a 2 year deal at the Tigers a few weeks back..... so what are we going to pay him ??
                            , surely nowhere near that.
I thought he might be Ok as a 14 on about $300K max.
He's not a starting half in NRL anymore surely.
I just don't see the upside to this anymore.
