  • Latest on the wrestle.

The latest topic in the nrl is the wrestle,,,players,ex-players & most coaches want it out of the game it slows the game down which makes it boring. These days if u dont wrestle well u loose the game and its wrong it should be about your natural skill and what you see infront of you ball in hand. It could be band and if it is i think it will be good for our team with the way smith coaches us, our team like most teams love the quick play the balls and the up tempo style footy which helps the non-structured teams (Roosters) to just through the ball around attacking the other team on the back foot,,99% of our attack comes off a quick play the ball which we hadly get because of the WWF style wrestle in other words we realie on the quick play the ball because we have no set moves just adlib footy. Its simple if u band the wrestle then i think adlib football becomes more effective!. In saying that it will still help structured teams like melb manly broncos to be just as good but atleast it evens out your chances when its your turn to attack and they cant yous there wrestle tactics to slow you down.

    Thoughts.....???

Very interesting quote by Wayne Bennett in todays paper about the wrestle

    THE FUTURE

Bennett says that in many ways these changes will take our game back to the future.

To when players were encouraged to attack, and winning football wasn't just about winning the ruck and completing sets.

"When was the last time you saw in a really tight game hookers and halfbacks breaking lines?" he asked.

"It doesn't happen anymore because when you've got nine seconds to set your defensive line you are always going to be in control.

"Where the game has lost its balance is that it's all about set pieces now and yardage.

"Sure, the game has always had set pieces and the game has always been about yardage. But it was never at the expense of being able to play off the top of your head and play what was in front of you, just to play football.

Its all well and good to think it will help our style of ADLIB footy, but I dont see it benefiting us as long as Jake is at dummy half. His slow and indecisive style will nullify that potential, it would help with someone like Mitchell feeding the ball.

its funny he mentions set pieces being important today.

mastercoach smith doesnt believe in set pieces at all, we have none.

This is pretty much the management of the game's fault, they allowed coaches and referee bosses to take over the game and this is what they have turned it into. It started when ****wit Finch started getting his referees to call out dominant tackle, from there it has snowballed into referees turning into on-field coaches who are easily manipulated by the actual coaches who have used these terms to slow the ruck down to a crawl.

                  Some scattered points;

It's very very easy to fix, goodbye dominant tackle, goodbye surrender tackle etc etc etc, the system reverts to common sense at the ruck with minimal guidelines for referees. (my suggestion would be that the more players involved in a tackle the less time they have to remove themselves from the ruck. eg. when the referee calls held in a 3 or more man tackle they must release INSTANTLY, no working, no grabbing, no turning etc, 2 man tackle slightly longer, 1 on 1 tackles the longest, referees instructed only to penalise the tackler if excessive delaying or foul play is involved)

Mass suspensions for any kind of wrestling hold, hold the neck or twist a leg at the ground and you start at 2 weeks for a first offence, with it doubling each time thereafter. (goodbye wrestling)

Cut the interchange down from 8 to 6.

2 referee system tweaked to have 1 head referee and the pocket referee turning to an assistant referee who has a roaming job that looks for forward passes out of the hands and knock ons, can not call for penalties at any time but can be asked by the head referee for an opinion related to foul play.

No more coaches and referees meetings to determine the rules, **** them right off - there's too many ****ing agendas at work. The ARLC needs to appoint a panel of former players, officialdom and coaches to review the rules and take their changes to the ARLC for approval.

No what's ironic is Waynekerr started the wrestle. When Bellyache was his assistant at the Wankos, Waynekerr asked him to find a wrestling coach to slow the play the ball down.

Now whenever a Waynekerr coached side plays Melba one of his " sleepers" in the media, like the son in law Ikin, comes out with a piece directly aimed at Melbas wrestling tactics. This of course is to try and pressure the officials.

Another irony I've noticed this weekis the band of RedneckNuttbags from QLD leading the charge to have the eligibility rules fixed up for rep footy. SmellMaFinga and Toolis and Ikin have all been "out" in force. Funny thing is it's an issue when it's Tamou, cos of course he's a NSWelshman. But we heard zippo when it was Inglis, kHunt, Carroll, Thorne, Smiff, Lam etcetcetc.

Oh irony it never dies in RL.

Smith's master plan is that he envisioned that changes will be made mid season and that we will be the team to adapt the best.

I have come to the conclusion that Queenslanders must have some sort of chemical imbalance which erodes their brains. It sometimes affects New South Welshman who move up there.. not all of course

                            Lol, so true mate.

That's why I moved to The Tweed.

Besides many would argue I have always had a chemical imbalance anyway.
