Depending on whether the club drops Braith Anasta for the remainder of 2012 or not, the decision will define this club for years to come.
If we do drop him it will define the Roosters as ruthless, uncaring and turning our back on a club captain that’s been with us for 6 years. It would describe us as saying no one player is more important than the club. That winning and developing and striving to be the best on the field is the all important focus of our club.
Dropping him could of course have a very disruptive and destabilising affect on the team. It could be a public relations disaster as no doubt Crapasta will receive an enormous amount of sympathy from the noise limited hacks and from his mates at Poxtel. Have no doubt rothfield will have a rothfielday at our expense if we do drop him. It could even lead to tensions with sponsors with the club being in the papers with negative headlines.
If we don’t drop him it will (imo) define us as a soft, misguided club who is willing to sacrifice a season for 16 other blokes to allow an out of form player who’s signed with another club to continue as captain. It will also prove (imo) once and for all that Nick Politis is not focused on winning, but is more concerned about running this club as his own personal fiefdom at the expense of being competitive and following a youth policy. It will also prove that Brian Smith is the coach in name only and is being constantly hindered in his recruitment and retention of players.
Not dropping Anasta will demonstrate that as a club we are unwise, poorly managed and in need of a massive overhaul from the very top to the very bottom. There are risks either way but imo we must take the risk and drop him and set the standard for our club going forward.
Chook.
