  • A Club Defining Decision.

Depending on whether the club drops Braith Anasta for the remainder of 2012 or not, the decision will define this club for years to come.

If we do drop him it will define the Roosters as ruthless, uncaring and turning our back on a club captain that’s been with us for 6 years. It would describe us as saying no one player is more important than the club. That winning and developing and striving to be the best on the field is the all important focus of our club.

Dropping him could of course have a very disruptive and destabilising affect on the team. It could be a public relations disaster as no doubt Crapasta will receive an enormous amount of sympathy from the noise limited hacks and from his mates at Poxtel. Have no doubt rothfield will have a rothfielday at our expense if we do drop him. It could even lead to tensions with sponsors with the club being in the papers with negative headlines.

If we don’t drop him it will (imo) define us as a soft, misguided club who is willing to sacrifice a season for 16 other blokes to allow an out of form player who’s signed with another club to continue as captain. It will also prove (imo) once and for all that Nick Politis is not focused on winning, but is more concerned about running this club as his own personal fiefdom at the expense of being competitive and following a youth policy. It will also prove that Brian Smith is the coach in name only and is being constantly hindered in his recruitment and retention of players.

Not dropping Anasta will demonstrate that as a club we are unwise, poorly managed and in need of a massive overhaul from the very top to the very bottom. There are risks either way but imo we must take the risk and drop him and set the standard for our club going forward.

    Chook.

Chook, even though I praised Nick Politis in another thread, this club is run by a piss poor management team.

I keep checking the website to see if Julia Gillard has taken over.

    Haha!

A very thought provoking post Chook. Thank you.

However IMHO there's a bigger chance of B. Fittler making a comeback than there is B. Anasta being dropped.

          I don't have a problem with Braith wearing 11, 12 or 13.

i dont think he'll ever be dropped. i think there is a chance that he may be shifted to backrow and possibly a more remote chance that he has captaincy stripped. but i think this will depened on how poor the team is playing consistently and these changes will probably come to late when the plan is shifted to look toward next year.
it might be difficult to argue though that you cant move him from 5/8 in prep for next yr when nxt yrs 5/8 is not here. and maybe difficult to argue that he should be stripped of the captaincy when he is pviewed as the best captain at the club even if he does not perform on the field.
i think for your dropping scenario to work out he would have to be stripped of the captaincy first to plan for next yr. after that frenzy dies down then there my be a chance of being shifted to backrow and then dumped.
also there are lot of fans out there that believe they hype of previous phil gould/tim sheens comments and other DT articles that would be unhappy with his demotion. however if we can weather that storm and start winning that will go away easily.
as for disharmony in the playing roster, i cant really comment as I have no idea about his relationships with other players. but surely theyd be fed up with his rubbish performances.

              They won't drop Anasta.

To be fair, we would still be an ordinary team with Mortimer there instead of him.

Better than we are now, but not Melbourne.

In fact, I'm not actually convinced there are many clubs in this league who would drop their captain, even if he was out of form. Then again, not many clubs would have gotten themselves into this fuucked up position that we're in with Braith at six.

I hope they drop Braith this afternoon.

But let's be honest, they just won't do it.

As much as I like dislike the guy I still think he is our best option at 6.

I agree most clubs stand by their captains even when they are out of form. I just don't see any sense in standing by a player who has signed for another club AND is out of form and for the life of me I can't think of an example of that at another club?

                    Chook.

                      1 - Out of form.
2 - Signed with another club.
3 - Going through the motions.
                      4 - Youth policy.
5 - Develop for the future.
                      6 - Craig Fitzgibbon.
                      7 - Nothing to offer.
                      8 - Blood a new captain.

                      Take your pick.

                      Chook.

Agreed, but as I said, what other club but Easts could get themselves into a position where there five eighth and captain is a shithouse footballer who is leaving the club?

It is comical, and I can't see them dropping him.

They stripped Fitzy of the captaincy and he was playing 1000% better than the imposter, and Fitzy hadn't even signed with another club.

I say we start moving forward by taking the captaincy off him and give it to Mitch Aubusson and send the invisible one to Newtown to "work on his game"

We won't know if that's true if we don't try Fitz.

I tell what I would like to see: I want to see Smith instil a ruthless take no prisoners stlye of defense. We are so embarrassing in this department. 100 points conceded against the Storm/Cowboys!
