  • Shaun Kenny Dowell retires

Congratulations on a rich career Skidsy.

The only player that has made me physically throw my remote control at the televison in frustration.

But the Grand Final broken jaw will forever be legend and folklore in the annals of the Roosters and the NRL. A shame Sattler's broken jaw gets all the glory and SKD's never gets mentioned...mainly because the media love the Rabbitohs.

Also a reminder that footy is a bloody short game in the context of the overall human lifespan.

JWH is the last man standing still playing NRL from the 2010 Roosters Grand Final squad - the rest are long retired, with only a couple (Pearce and Leilua) trundling along in Super League semi-retirement.

350 games and counting. Done well for himself as a first-grade footballer. Never one of my favourites but a bloke capable of the spectacular on his day, never boring to watch.

      Skidsy - Congrats big fella

Mr Rocks and Diamonds but overall a legend of a bloke and Roosters stalwart. I'll never forget his intercept against the Tigers in that semi and playing through a broken jaw in the GF win.

          Rocks & diamonds.
I can remember times on here when so many wanted him punted but I always thought he was good value. At one stage he was the Roosters only attacking weapon & even though he made mistakes he was still the only player that could break a game. Anyway good luck to him, he’s a Roosters man through & through.

            Sydney Roosters player # 1069

            224 games (2007- 2017) - 121 tries - 3 goals - 490 points

            Congratulations on your Career SKD

On a sad note the second last of the Great Arthur Beetson recruitments that was still playing. - Mitchell Pearce would be the last one still playing

Told by the NZ Warriors he wasn't in the top 100 in his position in NZ so they cut him from their Development squad - Took the punt and came to Australia on his own volition as a 16 year old to try his luck in making it in Australia in League instead

When playing for Clovelly Crocodiles was when the Great Arthur Beetson seen him and well the rest is history

I can remember a game years ago which encapsulated SKD in the space of one run. I can't remember the opponent or the year but we were struggling coming out of trouble and SKD takes a carry...somehow he shimmies and slides between a couple of players and makes us 10 valuable metres, then he bumps off another and he's aways, over the 30m over the 40m up to half way what a run! Then he dropped the ball trying to change hands to fend a guy and the opposition was back on attack again!

Congrats on a great careers Skidsy, not bad for a Kiwi backpacker

I'd like to forget that pass to Darius Boyd but I can't. Skidsy certainly was rocks and diamonds. There were more diamonds than rocks, but some of the rocks were boulders.

I saw him in the mall here at the Gong about two years ago. I said "SKD what are you doing here?". He goes "Not much what are you doing here?" and I reply "I live here mate!". He surreptitiously left the conversation. Very awkward to say the least.

He was the warm up act for the current lot we've got.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Loved him and hated his heart in mouth moments. Every time he carried the ball had me expecting either something sensational or something worthy of kicking the tv. Congratulations on a great career many would only dream of.

yep, helping us win a gf with a broken jaw makes him a roosters hero forever. if he'd been wearing a souths jersey they'd still be talking about it
