  • Playing on Good Friday?

OK for the last several years NRL has played games on Good Friday, the roosters have since 2001. Of course for Christians it is a sad day, but that is a completely different topic.

The AFL haven't scheduled any games this year neither have the English Premier League. In my opinion either all the leagues play on Good Friday or none.

When I was asking my mother if I could go to this weekends broncos game she said," Why are the NRL playing on Good Friday?!"

I know there are some people who aren't religious but in my opinion, can't they just have the day off and spend time with their families? I also think if they play games on Good Friday they might as well play it on Christmas Day.

Maybe it could be possible that the could follow the AFL's lead of playing on the Thursday night before Good Friday.

    What do you think?

TV ratings would lead me to believe that playing on Good Friday is a good move..

The world is a bigger place than just practising Christians... I know of a lot of Christians who have no problem with the Good Friday game..

Sport should never be dictated to by religion!!!

What about the people who work at the Easter show? Or bus and train drivers? Plenty of people work on Good Friday. Footballers are lucky, compared to these other folks.

I am a christian and am happy with the good friday game.

It has become a tradition for the rooster, one of those games you can mark in the calender years in advance !

you mentioned about spending time with family nick. if it takes a day like good friday for someone to "make the effort" to spend time with their family.......then they have problems !

BTW tell you mum they have been playing good friday games for many years.

BTW, Good Friday is not a sad day as such, more a celebration of the sacrifice that jesus made.

As a Catholic who grew up on a diet of 40 years without footy on Good Friday I would prefer we didn't play just out of respect.

As you said, before you know it we will be playing Christmas Day.

Oh, and yes I will be going and I'll probably eat meat that day too.

Then again in future games mightn't be played during Ramadan.

I'd love to see our entire country be more non denominational, but its not gonna happen. Lets keep sport that way though!!!!! Respect the right to choose I say.

the dogs are scheduled for byes during ramadam? i used to love having a big nosh up in bahrain during ramadam, complete with icy cold ones, the poor waiters were salivating, i got kinder in later years, just ordered room service, just like the saudis, but you dont know whats done to your meal b4 you get it? the most wicked thing was to peel off the sticker pointing to mecca and reposition it! never felt bad about that!

Yeah I know it doesn't make sense.

I'm Catholic but I don't go to church, give up things for lent or avoid meat on Fridays, lent Fridays or even just on Good Friday.

                              My morals have slipped.

Although I would prefer no sports played on Good Friday I'll still go if it's on.
