  • The Pat Richards Kick Off

The newest rugby league tactic. It's a play that puts the receiving team under pressure off the kick off, and gives the kicking team a higher chance of getting the ball back.

Won't be long before every team starts performing it.

Richards kicks the ball in a certain way so that it essentially becomes a swirling torpedo bomb that lands around the 20m line.

No one else has been able to perfect it, they are trying but just can't kick it like he does. His first drop out today flew 60 metres into a stiff southerly, surprised the NFL hasn't come knocking, the sweetest punter of a football I have seen.

he does have a great kick. I am sure all teams are trying to copy it but it looks like a unique skill

Bondi boy will be shouting for a specialist to be trained up for that along with his big pacific island boy who is there for 40/20 kicks only.

If only we could train the pacific islander to do the spiral bomb kick offs as well as the 40/20s... We can only dream

Is his kicking tee legal? I remember a few seasons ago, and it may have been the Tigpies, doing a similar type of kick-off. It was revealed the tee was illegal (cut-down witches hat painted black) and the club was fined.

It's not much good if you don't concede many points.

DCkags doesn't think of that major point! The DC would probably hope that we concede points just so that we can attempt some fancy kick offs.
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

                      Here's looking at you, kid.
