Tinkler went from a bush sparkey, to a multi millionaire, but the climb was too steep, and now he is tumbling down the otherside of the mountain, after leaving a trail of unpaid bills, to small business's that supplied him stuff, or done work for him, the humble bush sparkey soon learnt to portray the mannerisms of the rich, and the real people, were like dishwater too him, but as the old saying goes, dont kick the arses of people on your way up, cause they sure as hell will be there to reciprocate, on your way down. Harvey deal with cash-strapped Tinkler just 'helping a mate'..

BUSINESS giant Gerry Harvey has confirmed his role as a white knight for Nathan Tinkler as speculation mounts that the embattled mining magnate will offload his Australian racing empire.

Mr Harvey, as well-known for his love of horse racing as for his Harvey Norman retail business, yesterday told The Courier-Mail he had entered into "a private agreement" with Mr Tinkler to help the struggling mogul "get back on his feet".

Rumours have circulated in the racing industry that Mr Harvey loaned the Newcastle Knights owner $20 million, which was used to settle two multimillion-dollar debts that had prompted court action against companies within Mr Tinkler's empire. Mr Harvey would not comment on the size of the loan or go into detail on the financial arrangement with Mr Tinkler, whose debts have been the talk of Australian racing, but admitted he was helping a mate.

"That's a private matter between myself and Nathan that I don't really want to comment on," he said. "I'm just helping him get all his affairs in order.

"Hopefully then all this bad publicity will dry up and he can get on with things.

"I've helped a lot of people out over the years."

Some believe Mr Tinkler will offload his racing operation and Mr Harvey, co-owner of the Gold Coast's lucrative Magic Millions carnival, would be in a prime position to take over the Patinack Farm operation, but Mr Harvey backed the former billionaire to bounce back.

"I don't think it will come to that (taking over Mr Tinkler's operations)," he said. "He has to turn things around, but I think he will."

The Courier-Mail can also reveal that Mr Tinkler's money woes prompted Racing Queensland Ltd officials to monitor the health of his horses at the Patinack Farm base at Canungra in the Gold Coast hinterland.

RQL chairman of stewards Wade Birch confirmed RQL vets had been sent to Patinack Farm in response to concerns about the horses' welfare. He said there was no evidence of anything untoward.

Racing Queensland became involved after it was contacted by businesses seeking help to recover bills unpaid by Patinack Farm. RQL inquired about the supply of feed to Patinack Farm after it emerged the operation was well behind in its payment to a local feed merchant.

Feed agents this week told The Courier-Mail their payments were up to date, but would not comment further.

The Courier-Mail revealed this week that Patinack Farm had asked RQL for its prizemoney cheques to be diverted to specified businesses.
