From the DT:
NRL reporter James Hooper has been sacked by Fox Sports after being charged with drink-driving on Thursday night.
Fox Sports’ managing director Steve Crawley confirmed to The Daily Telegraph Hooper “will be leaving Fox Sports, effective immediately”.
“James has been a great contributor since he joined us in 2016, but he’s also battled some significant personal issues from time to time. In speaking to him today, James also acknowledges that things need to change for him,” Crawley said.
The incident with Hooper is understood to have occurred in Leichhardt on Thursday night. NSW Police were approached for comment.
When approached Hooper told this masthead: “I’ve let the game of rugby league, my employers, my wife and kids down terribly.”
Hooper, who was Fox Sports’ chief rugby league reporter, said while it was a “privilege” working in the role at Fox: “Clearly I’m not handling the tough side of the job.”
“Hopefully this is the punch between the eyes that will set me straight,” Hooper said.
Hooper confirmed he would be would continue seeking professional treatment.

Hard to feel sorry for him IMO. He was a disingenuous, smug, shifty gutter journo who constantly reported and critiqued players for their off field antics and spread garbage hyperbolic player transfer rumours. Has been a poorly kept secret that Hooper got away with a lot, especially in Vegas. I personally have a story on this guy as well about his poor journalism, but that is for another day.
