  • There was a spinster from Rose Bay
Who met a man who couldn’t stay
    she stayed at home
    and was all alone
remembering it with a candle every May

Hang on a moment Jack..why would there be that sort of context on here? Most of the contributors in this thread are happily married or in long term relationships aren't they? That hardly seems respectful to anyone concerned does it? I'm very shocked at this..how strange..

      • Search the word limerick and you will find it says Limericks are known to be humorous and frequently rude This is the answer to the above question. There is a very crude sense of humour amongst the adults in this home which is in someways restricted by the presence of teenage girls So on here is where I have come to amuse myself and others here. But today and just to keep a certain prude happy I will not post any rude content

There was an Irish horse named Taramansour
winner of 4 races and should win more
        the owner doesnt fret
as he had a large bet
the first time he did score

Also if there are children around, that's not nice for them to walk past and see on someone's device. How awful to be around someone like that. I'm very sensitive to that sort of smut being an Empath and also the aunt of 8 girls. I wouldn't want any of my nieces to read anything off colour, particularly when it's supposed to be about poetry.

My limericks are based on that SBS movie I mentioned previously. Bill Nighy played the curmudgeon in it (He is so good in these roles). The grumpy foul mouthed man whom no woman wanted to be around, drank too much, scared the villagers etc, his racehorse stopped winning, all sorts of trouble he found himself in. Miserable bastard I think they referred to him as in the film..

Here is a lovely elegant poem to start the day and I hope everyone enjoys it. From Elizabeth Barrett Browning:

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace…

          • Oh I see you are plagiarising My Daughter and her friends have been raised better than to sneak up behind adults on a computer to look at the content. They have their own devices and their own interests and have no interest in what the adults are doing on their computers. But someone who has never raised a child would not know how to navigate this nor realise teens have no real interest in what their parents are doing on their computer

Sorry but the end of your or is it someone elses poem does not rhyme or lacks punch

PS Yesterdays Melbourne Cup winner had not won a race for over two years The runner up whom Taramansour has beaten home the only time they raced also went close to two years without winning a race

who many thought was a beast
              she had dietary needs
to assist the life she leads
We all hope she is not soon deceased

              • A man had lunch on a sunny day
                with woman from Rose Bay
                he did not drink
                but was on the brink
as he felt he could not get away

                on another day
                they drank lady grey
                when he finally got away
he met a top girl from Rushcutters Bay
and forever a day together they stay

                • The Beach by Robert Graves
Louder than gulls the little children scream
                  Whom fathers haul into the jovial foam;
But others fearlessly rush in, breast high,
Laughing the salty water from their mouthes--
                  Heroes of the nursery.

The horny boatman, who has seen whales
And flying fishes, who has sailed as far
As Demerara and the Ivory Coast,
Will warn them, when they crowd to hear his tales,
That every ocean smells of tar.

                  • Invictus by William Ernest Henely read by Morgan Freeman

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

                    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

                    Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.

I don't know the origins of your dislike for each other nor do I care.

Please, for the sake of all members of the Pen, put each other on ignore.

If that doesn't appeal to you I can I could always ban you.
