in footy it's good to be loyal but in politics tribalism is a bad thing. like i said i hope he's wrong but it's an important, expensive issue and he clearly thinks it his patriotic duty to speak outOriginally posted by Jacks Fur Coat View Post

Very harsh Jack !! All former Australian PMs are allowed an opinion and dont have to toe the party line- they are after all just private citizens like the rest of us. Sure Keating is 79 years old and not what he was....but he is still sharper than Peter Dutton!!Originally posted by Jacks Fur Coat View Post

The Late Malcolm Fraser, Malcolm Turnbull and former opposition leader John Hewson also call it as they see it- rather than being a cheerleader of their former party. Shows a strong characterOriginally posted by zac View Post

Keatings' excoriation of the MSM is timely. Our MSM has, within just few years, turned decidedly positive public opinion re our No1 trading partner, China, to a decidedly negative view. The ABC, too has been complicit. It's been biased coverage and it has been unremitting. The same goes for the events in Ukraine.
In the past, I used the example of a former dullard student of mine who has climbed the heights of "journalism" to illustrate who we have here "informing" us in OZ. Murdoch says he employs people from middle rank Catholic schools so, generally it's a pretty mediocre standard. It would appear that my former student rose because of a complete lack of any analytical/writing talent and yet he has influence.
There is also a trend identfied in surveys that has young journalists believing that their job is to push causes which they support (more like ones that their bosses do).
The following article follows up Keating's spray and it further ridicules some of the aggrieved questions that followed his Press Club speech. For those with concerns about what we are told, it is a must read.

Hello...... Jax....this is the Off Topic, No footy here buddy, just conversation. You know like down at the RSL jawing with the other know nuthins about whatever the Sky guys have been raving about on the day. I note that you never proffer opinions on the substance of threads (a lot like Kingsley in that regard) and that is a wise policy.
