I can honestly say that University set me up for life but not due to any qualifications. Back then there were only 2 universities and most students were well off middle class and half of them were chicks. Working class braggadaccio worked a treat. Eventually marrying one, I never suffered the anguish of affording a house, rate rises etc but there is something in marrying for love I'll give ya the tip.

I do feel a bit guilty that I never suffered - Catholic bullshit.

I do also, wonder at The King's similar situation - House Hubby? Not much to do but google? Gotta be Opus Dei.
I was at ICAC the other day viewing the ICAC Operation Landon Hearing proceedings - NSW Department of Education - School Infrastructure NSW - In Finance we had to collate a lot of data for this plus a mate of mine in ITD - specialist unit - had to extract certain emails between those under investigation.

This Unit is allocated Billions each financial year - their 2024/2025 Budget is 8.9 Billion - New Schools . Upgrading's and Maintenance of existing Schools - over 2200 Schools in NSW- Primary and Secondary

The ICAC is investigating whether, between 2017 and about 2024, then School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) chief executive Anthony Manning and other SINSW staff or contractors partially exercised their official functions by:
    • intentionally subverting appropriate recruitment practices to benefit friends and business associates
    • improperly awarding contracts to friends and business associates
    • misallocating funds from school projects to favour particular businesses and to fund consultancy positions for friends and business associates.

The ICAC is also investigating whether Mr Manning, then human resource strategic advisor Wendy O’Brien, and others, dishonestly exercised their official function by taking reprisal action against certain staff following complaints or public interest disclosures at SINSW.

I think some Mandarins maybe without a job after this and former Mandarins may have a case to answer - seemed a lot knew about this but did nothing.

No in this context the term Mandarins is the term they use for Senior Public Servants - in NSW these folk are PSSE ( Public Service Senior Executive)
        • Band 4 (Secretary level): $499,251 - $576,700.
        • Band 3 (Deputy Secretary level): $354,201 - $499,250.
        • Band 2 (Executive Director level): $281,551 - $354,200.
        • Band 1 (Director level): $197,400 to 248, 850

There is a Publication - Called the Mandarin - covers State / Federal and International Public Sector Stories.

        • The KIng's post appears to be a long winded assurance that he's not a house hubby.

Interesting nonetheless. I do know that teachers are now saddled with a whole range of employment obligations that are compulsory and ongoing having to be refreshed every year. One of those is corruption and fraud so more staff are now conscious of what constitutes a breach of ethics and that would apply in the Department as well. Looks like the good old days may be over for Mr. Manning.

          Off topic of course.

That annoys people as we have to go through another course on this like we are the one's under investigation. As I said to the Secretary when he attended our Department of Education PSA Union Meeting - your problem is the upper management who take away and create delegations and for what reason.

Manning created a organisation structure where he had the same financial delegation as the Secretary i.e 5 million plus a raft of advisory groups - planning/ procurement / communications etc that either already existed within the Department or were the role of another Department- Members of these advisory groups were also paid.

A classic example was a tender for work to be undertaken for a School - The company quoted 440k - got the heads up it was too high and quoted again for 90k - mmm - they were awarded the contract - 3 revisions of the contract later the said company was paid 990k - also the director of the company was put on the Department payroll as executive director planning and procurement - no one in SI NSW ever saw them in the office - so what were they doing for this payment.

This was happening for 7 years - Us in Finance don't see all this - ours is to monitor expenditure against budgets and report to treasury - only get involved when schools/units are overspending or nearing their budget allocations - do appropriate investigations then - not pre-empt this.

I am a clerk 11/12 which is the clerk classification below the PSSE Bands - Clerk 11/12 is the highest Clerk Classification - Above that are these PSSE Bands. I have acted in the Directors role a few times - mmm all you do is attend meetings(online) and have others provide you information requested by the executive directive that is passed on to the Deputy Secretary and Secretary. - the old delegation

Still working from home but this is changing due to a directive from Premier Minns that we Public Servants return to the office.

I haven't worked from our head office at Parramatta since March 2020.

Our Department has head offices in Parramatta / Eveleigh / Bathurst / Newcastle / Wollongong plus a raft of Education Offices in Sydney Region and Regional NSW

As a result of Minns Directive all Flexible work arrangement application must be completed and approved by July 18 via our HRM SAP - Staff to work from approved Department of Education Offices - Remote working from home / working from non Department offices/locations such as libraries has to be approved by more senior managers depending on the numbers of days.

I intend to still work 5 days from home as Mrs Salvo is a GP in Regional NSW. - My Role HQ is Parramatta .

2029 will be it for me being in the old SSS (Superannuation Scheme ) - earlier though as I will be taking Accrued LSL (Long Service Leave) and Rec Leave some time in early 2028 - have over 1 year of LSL and will take it as normal pay up to retirement date in 2029 - August 1 - If your LSL/REC Leave is paid out on retirement it's taxed at 32% from dollar 1.
