That's the reality. There is no Putin "spin" on the causes of the war. For the Russians, an existential threat loomed.

The Ukrainian folk wanted to be European-President Yanukovych's decision not to sign a political association and free trade agreement with the European Union (EU) and choose closer ties with Russia under pressure from Russia was the causation of the Revolution of Dignity/Maidan Revolution.

It must be noted that the Verkhovna Rada overwhelmingly approved finalising the EU association agreement.

There is no peace agreement yet, the war continues. Kissinger bombed the bejesus out of Hanoi during the Paris peace talks but you seem to be implying that continuing to prosecute this war when peace talks are mooted is somehow novel. And you keep on bewailing the plight of the Ukes who, clearly, had their tragedy forced on them by the strategic goals of the US. This is not a wide eyed country that innocently aspired to join up with the US led West. The US has, since the 90s, sought to diminish the influence of Russia in Eastern Europe. There was a US backed coup by fascist Nationalists who are the grandchildren and who revere Holocaust perpetrators like Stefan Bandera.

Russia, on the other hand, has the cruel memory of the great Fascist invasion, just 80 years ago, which was abetted by the anti socialist Capitalist west - the result was 20 million + dead and the joint totally. wrecked - they were not going to have that happen ever again. What is occurring in Ukraine now is nowhere near the scale of 1941 - 45 in Russian yet we persist in swallowing US versions of the world.
