  • Split Enz are reforming for a tour next year.

    From the ABC:

Split Enz kick off their Australian tour with a headline set at the Byron Bay Bluesfest in April and will return to Australia in May to play the following arena dates.

Wednesday 13 May — Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne

Monday 18 May — ICC Theatre, Sydney

Friday 22 May — Perth Arena, Perth

Monday 25 May — Entertainment Centre, Adelaide

Bluesfest tickets are on sale now, while the other shows go on sale Monday 17 November.

They have too many hits to just pick one to post so here is the link to a dedicated youtube channel:

I was very excited to read this news. I fell in love with Neil and the band when I Got You came out in 79. I didn’t know then how much Neil would grow as a song writer. But Split Enz is Tim’s band and I’ve only ever seen them once in 84 during their farewell tour here in Canberra. I remember being so excited back then finally getting to see them live after following them all through high school. I knew they were doing Bluefest and was hoping this would lead to a few more shows. There was lots of speculation from fans on Facebook before it was announced. It’s going to be hard to get tickets for just one Sydney Show. So yeah I’d imagine a similar feeling as you with the new abba album for sure.

That’s off my favourite album of theirs Time and Tide. They were really peaking as a band and Tim had bounced back after Neil had been writing all the hit songs off the two previous records. The interesting thing is the concert in Sydney is only a few days after a big birthday of mine, one I’ve been trying to forget is coming lol.

Thanks Horrie. I haven’t seen that ad before, but I knew they were releasing another Wings complication. Split Enz have remastered some of their earlier album too which will be released soon. There’s too many ‘new’ releases for me at the moment lol. Too much $$$. I’ll at least have a few Christmas suggestions for the family. And, I bought my tickets for the Enz concert in presale today! Again, talk about expensive. But hopefully well worth it. If they announce a Canberra concert later I will be so annoyed but I couldn’t risk missing out.

Ouch, just looked at the pricing for A reserved tickets. Still though it is something that probably wont happen again so will be worth every cent. I would have paid that or more to have seen Jeff Lynne or ABBA.
                        You will enjoy it MR.

                        • The delicious disco delights of ABBA, i loved this period when their music was more disco influenced before they branched out later into their more adult orientated period.

Agree. I would pay that to see Jeff Lynne or ABBA too. I think I was shocked because they’re not really a well known international act. The tickets cost about as much as the McCartney ones a few years ago. Also most of the tickets were A reserved. There were hardly any B and C on offer which weren’t much cheaper anyway and were right at the back in the corners. We will still have to find accommodation too. But it should be a great concert. I’ve seen Crowded House about 3 times since the late 80’s and Neil solo and the Finn Bros once, but only saw Split Enz once about 40 years ago as an 18 year old.

I love that one Horrie. I’ve been listening to a lot of ABBA the past 12 months as I decided to finally dig deeper into their discography. I always knew all their hits of course and had ABBA Gold and More Gold and Arrival. But I bought The Album, Super Trouper, Voulez-Vous and The Vsitors last year. I never really appreciated them as an album band before because of all their great singles. I viewed them as a singles band but I was so wrong to do that. They really did develop from album to album. One of the greatest pop artists ever apart from the Fab Four.

Slipping Through My Fingers is such a heart felt song from Agnetha, such heart break and emotion, it actually summed up how she missed her children growing up while ABBA were touring through the mad early years.
The Visitors is a masterpiece barring one song ( Two For The Price Of One ), it was so far head of its time. The single of The Visitors is such a brooding haunting song, just pure genius from Benny and Bjorn.

Super Trouper is my favourite album of theirs, not a dud track on the album, i give it a 10 out of 10 and rate it as my second favourite album of all time after ELO's New World Record.

Voulez Vous is just pure magic packed full of great songs, many disco inspired. My favourites of the album aren't the songs that were released as singles. As Good As New and Lovers Live A Little Longer are songs i fell in love with when i first heard the album. The King Has Last His Crown , Kisses Of Fire ,Angel Eyes and even If It Wasn't For The Nights are more than filler tracks on the album, this is one album where i reckon the songs that weren't released as singles were better than the songs they released as singles,

You are right in saying they really developed from album to album, it would have been interesting to hear what the album following The Visitors would have been like had they continued on , there were five songs already recorded for it but the album never eventuated, four of those songs were released later on but there is one still sitting in the vaults fully mixed but unreleased, Just Like That, a few versions have been leaked so the fans do know what the song is suppose to sound like but Benny refuses to release the official version.

Another thing i find fascinating about was with the Voulez Vous album, the boys really had a mental block when writing for the album, the first song written was Summer Night City and was intended for the album, both the boys were unhappy with the song and tried many different mixes, they eventually released it as a single to bridge the gap between the last album released and the upcoming album that would miss being released before Christmas now with the writers block. I just wondered how Summer Night City would have fitted with the flow of the album, i reckoned it would have worked with its driving disco beat .
Also along with bonus tracks with re release of the album was a song called Dream World, this was an early version of Does Your Mother Know, if you listen closely you can hear parts of it which slot right in musically with Does Your Mother Know, i actually love Dream World as a stand alone song. Another bonus track was Lovelight which was the flip side to the Chiqutita single, to me this was a great recording and far better song than ending up as a b side.
