  • Went to a retro dance party yesterday and the music took a while to really take off, not that any of the songs were bad just ones i didn't feel like dancing to but finally got my Holy Trio of artists on the dance floor, a nice version of Gimmee, Gimmee by ABBA which mixed in nicely to Sophie Ellis Baxter's Murder On The Dance Floor, then a great mix of Xanadu with Olivia and ELO.
Few other songs danced to by Donna Summer and Amii Stewart but i always feel complete once i hear Xanadu and at least one ABBA song at these events. Also was great to see the better half do the Nut
Bush after the hip replacement, that is one song i avoid though as i would fall over my two left feet trying to do it.

Thanks for sharing Horrie. Please send my love to the patient also for the hip replacement.

I was passing through your area on the train a while back and told my boss it's the ABBA express. He said what are you on about? I told him how every 3rd song from Kogarah to Bondi Junction on my ipod appeared to be either a cover of an ABBA song, ABBA themselves or Benny on piano or Agnetha's solo stuff.

I really enjoyed doing that commute and it's a smooth trip on a nice train line with quiet people.

      • 4 REM songs from 3 different albums came up in a short space of time yesterday:

        Stand

Nightswimming..can't wait to play this on piano next time I visit the family as we still have it Melbourne with my sister as she has the big house..with room for a swimming pool and Tony Lockett's guernsey..Hyacinth Bucket would approve..

        • Disturbance at the Heron House from the Document album

Drive..The intro sets the tone immediately for what type of song we are in for..

Thanks H. As well as the great performance by Irene, I also really enjoyed...............the shots of that magnificent crowd on the day.

It was so on point vocally, that I thought she must be miming. But I don't think she was. A sad loss, pure talent.

                              • On my regular morning walk today (I'm trying to walk about 10 kms per day to lose some weight and keep up some fitness - if I keep it up should be in Newcastle by the end of next month)...anyway I happened upon an Orchard Rd.

It took me back to when that song really resonated with me in the early 80s when it was released. I had just finished the HSC and moved out of home to another town for the first time. Good songs from the past often evoke a particular memory or time in our lives. Im sure we all have had an "Orchard Road" in our own lives, metaphorically speaking.
