I've been so worried about Jeff Lynne and was thinking of you. Billy Joel's health hasn't been so good either and now Dolly Parton has postponed her shows.
Anytime I need cheering up, I put this on..bless Simon Le Bon fanboying all over Dolly...

I posted this in the cover version thread but its really not a cover version, more an absolute classic from years ago and the vocals shared with a more recent artist. Callum Scott has a heart aching beautiful voice and combined with Whitney Houston it is just wow, Callum Scott is fast becoming one of my all time favourite artists.
Calum Scott, Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)
My niece loved that as a child and Mum had bought her the cassette. She got to dance to it on her wedding day.

Going to be a funny couple of weeks, even though my mother passed away almost 3 years ago we are finally putting her ashes at a final resting spot in a couple of weeks on what would have been her 90th Birthday, of course now my father will be going to be next to her, but things wont be ready in time to do both of them together at the same time.
Couldn't say whether my father had a favourite artist but i know Glen Campbell was one of mum,s favourites.

There has been no update of Jeff Lynnes health since he had to cancel his last couple of farewell gigs, it doesn't seem good with not even a word coming out about how he is. Was upset when i heard about Dolly as i had just been to see Here You Come Again at the Theatre Royal last Thursday, hopefully she will be back to good health soon.
Jacks Fur Coat Thank you Jack as well for being there for me when my little childhood boyfriend from school and then my cousin passed within a couple of weeks of one another. He always asked about you as he remembered Tim Freedman's John Sattler song you had posted on here. Remember I had said if I hear 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' by Jeff Beck again, I knew it would be time for him to pass. My cousin called me from his hospital bed just after I had emailed you on Father's Day as he was waiting for the Parra match to be over, so we could go through how many tries Mitch had scored. Both our Dads followed Parra but my cousin followed Souths and that was the last conversation we had..plus we had joking custody battle over who should have Latrell..!
I was coming out of our Kogarah office a week later and put my iPod on before I got on the train. Sure enough, Jeff Beck came up with Somewhere Over the Rainbow which was Dad's favourite song played by one of my cousins' favourite artists and then 20 mins later I was on the train and then his true all time favourite band played, Zed Zeppelin. I thought oh crap..he's going to pass any hour now..I woke up so sick the next day with a massive headache, couldn't open my eyes from the infection, called my boss to show him that I looked like I'd gone 10 rounds with all the Burgess brothers combined and sure enough as soon as I got off the video call, my niece messaged me to say our cousin had passed.I'd borrowed the CD from the Paddington library a few years back. The first time it played, it was Horrie Hasting's birthday, 12 January 2023 and I could hear this music from the other room giving me the chills.. then I read that Jeff had passed away 2 days prior on 10th January. Then it played the day after Jack told me that his beautiful Mum had passed, then again when my cousin was being taken up to be with both our dads and our mothers.
It truly is a majestic piece of music. RIP beautiful loved ones of ours.

I have that CD of his greatest hits. Back in the day, I recorded a whole VHS tape of Rebel Yell just so I didn't have to rewind..

I do remember my father liking Nat King Cole and later on his daughter Natalie Cole, i remember him taking my mother to see Natalie.
He also liked Diana Ross but had a hissy fit when my sister bought him tickets to see her in concert here in 1989 as somebody had the gall to make a decision for him , it was his loss though and instead i was given the tickets and saw a really great performance from one of the all time greats.
Beautiful song from her.
Diana Ross - Do You Know Where You're Going To (Theme from Mahogany)
I listen to just as much Nat King Cole as I do George Michael.
This is my favourite and I have 2 cover versions as well. Autumn Leaves

Indeed it is. Jeff Becks playing in that clip reminded me of an interview with Eric Clapton at the Crossroads festival in 2004, where he (Clapton) was describing Jeff Becks playing. (see attached and the accompanying song).
Watch closely to Becks playing in the clip you posted. It all makes sense now. And the 'Cause We've Ended As Lovers' song - it's an absolute classic. Very fortunate to still have a copy of 'The Secret Policeman's other Ball' on vinyl - brilliant album.
