Just picked up my bib and look forward to being part of such an amazing event. Anybody else running it?

I had a good day out. Did another PB (despite it being considered a relatively slow / challenging course) and there was some great energy out there from all the supporters. Special thanks goes to the 'running with pride' crew in Taylor Square, which included a bunch of trannies on a stage singing 90's pop tunes. Also I finished before the pace group as it went out too hard. Was kinda awkz cruising past them as they crashed and burned (one of them blaming their shoes, which were the same as mine... I held my lip).
Other highlights? Will try to dot-point a few:
- The feel at the start is pretty awesome as it's such a big event now and had all the hype of a major. The start was early but the feeling of being at North Sydney Oval around ~5am and seeing the sun rise over the harbour as you start is quite special.
- Lotsa Easts territory was covered as you go up Anzac Pde and around Centennial Park). Past ES Marks too so from a nostalgia perspective we saw a lot of my old haunts from my days as a junior athlete.
- Got to meet a few of the elites at the end and they were all super friendly/encouraging. There's something about the style of African elites that I love as they're so humble and approachable.
- Met people from all over the world. Near the end a few Italian dudes were doing a photo for Italians... I jumped in (after talking Aussie English to a few people and looking very Aussie), jumped in between them and was like 'I'm from Valtellina... where's the limoncello and prosecco?!?!?' They didn't have any for me but were still super excited that some random, slightly whacky Aussie dude was also Italian.
- P!ssed off some two pound poms while returning home. I'd finished, had my pancakes and was trudging past St Mary's looking like a cripple. There was no crossing so I notice athletes were 'crossing' by joining the pack, running forward and then cutting out. Two poms saw my tactic, spend up and intentionally collided with me, while having a rant about how I had completely destroyed their chances of getting a mad time. I kept my lips shut as I was doing the dodge but was tempted to bust out some kung-fu fighting.
Glad to have been part of the Sydney Marathon's first year as an Abbotts World Major. It's awesome that Australia's got one now, the energy's hectic (more hectic than Cheese after he's enjoyed a cup of red cordial and some lollies after school).
Honestly the biggest challenge now is choosing which marathon to do next as there's so many options!!! Maybe Terrell May will join me some time
