Being of Spanish background I grew up with a few Portuguese kids back in Bondi Junction a long time ago. I thank them for my love of sardines!

This is Casa Do Benfica which is in the tennis centre which backs onto Henson Park. Food was wonderful, had a simple grilled octopus for an entree, it reminded of when i first had octopus that a Greek friend of the family used to make, and it was a large serve. Had the quail for main and again the serving size was amazing, one friend had the beef skewer and i tried a bit of the meat and it was so tender. Will go there again.

The Fraser Park one has looked like a construction site for the Metro when i have driven past it from Sydneham station but did see a line of cars waiting to go into the drive way a few weeks ago and checking the website it still is open.

Fresh sardines are a real treat, love the taste and so removed from the canned ones from back in the 60 s and 70 s although i had some canned ones on toast as a sharing plate at the State Library bar last year and i enjoyed them.

That's awesome mate. I love sardines both from a tin or on the grill.

I brought back some tins of anchovies from my recent trip to Spain. I could eat them all day.

Have you tried salt cod? Or "bacalao" as it's known.

Have you been to the Spanish Portuguese Butchery on New Canterbury Rd in Petersham? Worth a visit.

                    • MKR started on prime last night, and the first guys on were called Justin and will, Will said he played for the tigers and roosters, no mention of which grade, but I cannot place him at all. Anyone else know?

Willie Mataka? Probably someone who played one or two games.

Good detective work there in MR, six games for the West Tigers and two for the Roosters. I don't watch MKR anymore but caught the end of it last night when flicking channels and watched the the other contestants and judges giving the scores, it hasn't compelled me to start watching it again.

Love anchovies also, the saltiness is heaven

. Have never tried the salt cod, a restaurant i used to go to called Mrs Top was well known for her bacalao.

Even though i live close i haven't ventured out to Petersham for a long while, at the moment still have plenty of meat in the freezer from the meat raffles at the Coopers Hotel, also got a leg of lamb the other Sunday at the raffles at Erko Bowlo.

                              • Pork and and apple rissoles from a butcher in Berry , one of the few meats that haven't come from the Coopers Hotel. Coogee Legion Club or Erko Bowlo meat raffles.
Have not decided what veges to have with them yet.
