Without wanting to start a shitfight we're having garlic mashed potatoes,peas and corn with woolies chicken Kyiv . It's what it says on the packaging .. made in Australia so it's probably not authentic . Fair dinkum

Driving up north from Sydney, the rest break is usually either Buladelah, Coolongolook or Nabiac, if stopping at Nabiac when driving north we stop for petrol on the other side of the town but coming back we pull into the shopping strip, mainly going north we stop at Buladelah but used to sometimes stop just a bit further north at Coolongolook at the Salty Dog, it used to be real good and would often have half a dozen oysters and either blackfish or flathead with chips and have a glass of wine ( i wasn't driving ), that would always made me think i'm finally on holidays, they also had a place out the back of there called Platform pies and we used to get a couple from there for an afternoon snack, they were good pies, unfortunately it closed. Salty Dog closed after Covid and has had a few attempts at re opening, last time we went, new owners and it was terrible and then it closed again but it looks like it has re opened again or at least has a smokehouse cafe out the front now, will investigate when driving up to Taree on the weekend ( depending on this rain band happening ) and will probably have sneak into Nabiac on the way back

Coolongolook Smokehouse is not too shabby. Hear round the back. Nice grassy area for the family with seating and easy access to the cafe counter. They very nice breakfast/lunch options and have been lauded for their pies. Get in early if you want a good pie though as they sell out pretty quick during peak times.

The Artisan Farmer is just a few mins up the road on the left heading out of Nabiac. That place is sensational!

Would love to hear your thoughts after you visit. Take some extra $$ with you tho. Both places are a little pricey.

This place has opened recently not far from where i live, i haven't had the chance to check the shop out yet but have sampled his pies at the Royal Easter show and they are excellent, they had a Reuben pie at the show which was sublime, hope his store stocks it.

Going to Haydens pies is like being let loose in a candy store, so many options to choose from, the chicken, bacon, spring onion and cheese was one of the best flavour combination i have had, they sometimes did a lambs fry and bacon pie which i used to like getting as it had just the right amount of lambs fry in it where it didn't overwhelm the whole thing, i don't think they make it anymore though. Looking forward to seeing what varieties they have when i'm down there a few weeks. I always get a couple of family pies to take home for the freezer too.

They do mix it up quite a bit with some rare ones making appearances from time to time like the Coat of Arms pie and the Crocodile pie.
