I competed a bit in the States but never really felt comfortable with a lot of the newer machines.

I bought a number of older machines from Luna Patk when they sold them off in the early 90’s but my favourite period was the early 90’s to early 2000’s. For me, those machines had soo much going for them with good storyline’s and excellent playfields.

Data East made some great machines but they were as reliable as wifi on a plane

You’re not wrong but if they were serviced correctly, they were great to play. I always found flipper strength or even strength accross both main flippers to be an issue with them.

          Have you still got them?
They would be worth heaps because of the nostalgia. That's serious mancave memorabilia.

Yeah I did Mickey. Bought 3 of them through auction onsite. It was awesome just being there and being part of it. I didn’t intend on buying 3. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t a home owner at the time so they lived in my grandfathers garage for about 4 years until I moved to the Berra and I sold them before the move. Didn’t make any money but had a wonderful time playing them over that period.

Used to drive past it all the time, a shame place like it and Rushcutters Bay bowl are gone now.

I'm thinking of getting a virtual pinnie. Has anyone had any experience with one?

I played the one my mate built, the biggest bonus is you can play every game that was made, it’s all on a hard drive and you just select the game, it has a proper carcass, a plunger, flipper buttons and also has the tilt function warning.

once you are playing you get into it, but it isn’t the real thing. I enjoyed it though. He built his over time so probably didn’t cost him too much, the ones that they are selling range from $4K-$8k,so it might be worth buying one real pinned you really like.

some arcade places might have one to try out, or reach out to a seller and give it a run so you can see if it’s worth it.

The key to playing a pinball is to have a real feel for the ball, the flippers, the machine overall and you need combine all that with hand eye coordination and timing. Even the same machines can have different characteristics to the playfields. Each machine is an individual. It sounds silly but you need to become one with the machine. You can’t get that from anything virtual.

No you can’t, but they do a pretty good job with some of them, it’s not for everyone, but on the one below, it lets you nudge the table to slightly move the ball a fraction, has some real pinball machine features to it.

for someone who has time and patience, it would be a good project to build one, (I don’t have the patience) so I’d go for something like this.

What would a machine cost to service these days?
