  • Official election day thread

Well, folks — it’s official. Labor’s stormed home and Peter Dutton’s out on his… well, let’s just say he won’t need a seat in Parliament anymore.

In a twist that would make a Shakespearean villain blush, the hard-man of the right has been outflanked, outvoted, and out. Maybe the nation just finally got tired of the politics of fear — or maybe they just wanted their politicians to smile once in a while.

And while we’re handing out thank-yous, a quiet nod across the Pacific to Donald J. Trump. Your masterclass in how not to do democracy may have finally made “right-wing populism” about as fashionable as frosted tips.

    Australia: still mostly sane.

Tell us all how your Vermin mate Albo will address some of the following then.

    * Free TAFE and 20% reduction in Uni Fees - who funds this free TAFE and the difference in Uni Course fees?
    * Housing affordability -Albo negative geared properties as did his laboring on mates - public housing he says - mmm who pays for this - noting tax cuts
    * Tax Cuts -mmm these fund a whole raft of public services which will have less funds so how will these be funded with less tax revenue
    * Medicare is a shambles why so many practices no longer bulk bill
    * Close the gap - how will he do that - Voters rejected the voice as well
    * Higher/Fair wages - how will he do that - force business to pay higher wages with the additional costs passed onto consumers despite businesses not able to afford it.
    * Lower utility costs -power for instance - how will your Vermin Albo do that - oh winds farms and renewables - folk on here despite being so called "environmentalists" don't support that and go on their OS holidays as usual. They won't be changing ever.

Smoke and Mirrors of course but don't ever whinge when the country goes to the dogs under your Laboring On

I actually worked with Antony Green in TAFE or as it was called back then the NSW Department of Technical and Further Education back in the early mid 1980's - He was a computer programmer on a finance and teachers teaching hours program called establishment control

He hated being called Anthony I recall - no H in Antony.

Sharp as a tack I recall so good luck in your retirement Antony after 30 odd years as the ABC Election Analysis expert.

Loved Albo's gracious speech BTW. Politics aside I think he summed it up... in Australia we treat people with respect. Kind words/formalities were exchanged and then Albo went off to celebrate.

Congrats Albo!!! Amazing result and I'm glad Easts also had a big win this weekend.

And yes... I recognise & celebrate the tradition owners of Australia. We're not 'Murrica, we're the world's best country to live. One where everybody's appreciated and we don't celebrate BS like people being sacked or deported for no reason.

Love the unity that this has brought after multiple chaotic governments falling on their own swords.

More like you love vermin albo's bollocks - waiting for answers above on these "promises" - Only the air is free

Well, time you give the 'traditional" owners your house then, as it's built on their land according to your view, so they own it. 100% you won't, so why pretend? - Tokenism

Im not really sure what you expect to hear Sal. Will he be able to deliver in all this? Of course not. Would Dutton deliver on all his promises-and he did go tit for tat with Albo on promises, especially with heath promises- of course not. In 2022 Labor didn't release their costings on promises until 2 days before the election.....exactly what the Liberals did this campaign- they dont want the voter to digest the dodgy figures 2 days before the election. Most people have already made up their minds and are sick of hearing about the election 2 days before it

Theres a old say " You campaign in poetry, you govern in prose" which is a nice way of saying you bullshit when you want a vote, and then you do shit when you get in. Both Labor and Liberals were doing plenty of bullshitting to get your vote.

No point in playing the "they lied to you" card when your party plays the same game. Jacinta Price when down that line tonight and came across as a sour sore loser. Bloody hell your party got annihilated, you may want to look into your own backyard as to why....because i can guarantee you the answer is there somewhere and not "oh Albo lied".

Now let's work on closing the gap on pension days and replacing grace with welcome to country before we eat .
