Another amazing moment at White City was the 1980 final of the women's tournament. Wendy Turnbull saved 7 match points, including 5 in the the deciding set tie break after trailing 2-6 in the tie break, to beat Pam Shriver and win her first major tournament on home soil, it was helter skelter in the tie break as Turnbull fought back for an amazing win. This came after she had lost the Australian Open final the week before to Hana Mandilkova in straight sets, to get through to the final of the NSW Open she ran into Hana in the semis but beat her this time in three sets.

Frustrating to watch.
Looking forward to watching the young Canadian Victoria Mboko who has been pretty much sweeping all before her this year in 2nd tier tournaments Came through the qualifiers here not losing a set and has yet to lose a set in the first two rounds She plays the Chinese girl Zheng which will be a good test for her Though an outsider in the betting she is capable of an upset in this Her only losses this year being to top ten ranked players Gauff in three sets and another whose name escapes me for now but also in three setsLast edited by Andrew Walker; 05-30-2025, 05:27 PM.I respect all our moderators here.
