Biggest needs for the 11 playoff teams that fell short in '24

The Braves were one of the most injury-plagued teams in baseball this past season, with Ronald Acuńa Jr., Spencer Strider, Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, Michael Harris II and Sean Murphy all missing significant time. Simply having better health in 2025 should give the club a good chance to return to the ranks of MLB’s top World Series contenders.

That said, Atlanta could look to free agency to improve its shortstop situation after getting a .625 OPS from Orlando Arcia in 2024. The Braves are considered one of the favorites to sign Adames this offseason.

They also have some holes to fill on their starting staff as Fried tests the open market and Charlie Morton (also a free agent) ponders retirement. It will be interesting to see how Atlanta approaches the starting pitching market -- during president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos’ tenure, the Braves haven’t spent more than $30 million (Reynaldo López) on any free-agent hurler, and their largest expenditure on any pitcher has been $75 million (Strider).

Atlanta Braves back on the winners list after a 0 -7 start are now 12-14

A rare event in this game with Eugenio Alejandro Suárez (Arizona Diamondbacks) becoming the 19th player in MLB history to hit 4 Home Runs in the same game.

Braves down 6-2 top of the 7th and ground out an extra innings 8 -7 win

Not this time as I was only in Russia for around 2 weeks. Maybe I have to go back though, but hopefully I won't have to anytime soon. Mrs Salvo has stayed on in Russia.

Mrs Salvo's mother (Lyudmila Sharapova) is a treasure - no relation to Maria - not much English and would write me long letters she had others write in English to me.

I remember back in the late 90's when we visited Mrs Salvo's parents in Russia - food shortages galore. Somehow Mrs Salvo's Mother managed to obtain a steak (beef) and cooked it for me. I looked around the table, and I was the only one with steak - they had only vegetables - Mrs Salvo said just eat it, but I couldn't, so I cut this into quarters. It upset Mrs Salvo's mother, but I explained it to Lyudmila via Mrs Salvo so all good that I couldn't eat all this, and they just eat vegetables.

Mrs Salvo sends her parents money as they are on very low pensions - the equivalent of 230 USD a month each - they had a rise to 250 this year. Not sure how anyone could live with that without help from others.

Anyway, it was a strange feeling and I have not met anyone who likes the current situation in Ukraine, but the propaganda is full on and apolitical is the stance most take-Putin was on the TV every day and numerous times, so the Chookpen was the least of his thoughts and concerns one would say.
