  • History of Easts - where the sun and Roosters rise!!

This is printed on the inside back of my fav coat that I wear every time Roosters play. It's from the Heritage series a number of years ago. I thought it was interesting.

    History of the Roosters

The Sydney Roosters is the only club to have played every year for 102 seasons under the same identity but has had a variety of names, logos and jerseys.

When formed at Paddingron Town Hall on Jan 24th 1908 it was known as Eastern Suburbs and adopted the districts colours of Red White and Blue, the Tri Colours. The hooped design of the jersey was inspired by the visiting English Rugby team in1899.

In the 1950s Easts adopted a much more flamboyant dark blue jersey with a red and white V based on the visiting French rugby league team which had a "le Coq" motif on the jersey.

It wasn't long before the team was known as the Roosters. Some also claim the team is called the Roosters because of its Eastern suburbs location where "the sun and the Roosters rise"

EASTS have had several name changes over 100 years but has always stayed loyal to its district and today is an icon like the Eastern Suburbs most famous land mark Bondi beach
