I'm going to defend the John "the Pieman" Simon. There were already three playmakers at the club in Freddy, Lam and Andy Walker so he was wasted.

If he were here now, he'd be our halfback.

O'Meley and Ryles, and to a lesser extent Danny Nutley, are very similar signings. First year at the club, they provide valuable grit and experience in the forward packs, but their second years are plagued by injury and other concerns that limits their effectiveness. We were lucky enough that in Nutley's second year, O'Meley had joined. But notice that in O'Meley's second year where he struggled, we didn't have the depth to cover for him, and likewise this year with Ryles being plagued by injury.

Poor signings since I have started following the club seriously can be divided into two categories:

Decent performances but bad influence and/or not worth their paypacket

          Quentin Pongia
          Justin Hodges
          Ned Catic
          Brett Finch
          Chris Walker
          Ashley Harrison
          Willie Mason
          James Aubusson

          Just offered nothing

          Paul Langmack
          Craig Kimmorley
          Paul Khoury
          Graham Appo
          Darren Burns
Ian Rubin (arguable, had some decent performances)
          Dean Widders
          Albert Talipeau
          Paul Green
          Monah Elahmad
          Jamie Russo
          Sam Obst
          Michael Korkidas
          Luke Milton
          Nathan Tutt
          Trent Clayton
          Kylie Leuluai
          Mark Leafa
          Eric Grothe Jr
          Justin Holbrook
David Kidwell (arguable, had some decent performances)
          Tevita Metuisela
          Fred Peterson
          Steve Skinnon
          Todd Ollivier
          Henari Veratau
          Gavin Lester
          Steve Crouch
          Luke Dorn
          George Rose
          Richard Fa'aoso
          Nigel Plum
          Ben Hannant
          Brett Firman
Vince Mellars (arguable, had some decent performances)
          Josh Lewis
          Lafi Manua
          Mark Edmondson
          Charlie Tonga
          Glenn Hall
          Willie Brown
          Chris Beattie
          John Williams
Riley Brown (arguable, had some decent performances)
          Brent Grose
          Sean Rudder
          Jordan Tansey
          Sisa Waqa
          Sonny Tuigamala
          Nick Kouparitsas
Brad Takairangi (although might get another shot)
          Daniel Fepuleai
          Jason Baitieri
          Jonathan Ford
Steve Naughton (although might get another shot)

I thought Clarke went alright for us. Poor bastard got cut down with that neck injury in his prime. If it wasn't for that injury, I think he was have been a very good player for us.

Very harsh to see Justin Holbrook mentioned - He played 4 games for us in 2002 and did not lose one.

Same with Ben Wellington - Awesome prospect, debuted at the Roosters and then had chronic knee problems and had to give up footy all together.

                      Paule Vautin without a doubt..

                        Agree 100%..

Clarke went good for us when we were going about as well as we are at the moment..

Very unfortunate what happened to him..

I enjoy hearing his commentary on Super League games..

Anyone who thinks Mason gave us worse service than Fatty obviously isn't old enough to remember when he played for us..

He was the pommy test captain at the time wasn't he? I know the injury cut him short, but given the money he would've been on, he was no more than an average first grader, maybe

How about J.P du Plessis - or was he a myth?

Like a good Wilbur Smith novel - another myth from South Africa.
