Me too & think exactly the same.
Its worked at the Chooks having 2 captains but if it was up to me I would have 1 captain & 1 vice captain. Not everyone gets a prize.
I'll go one step further...who even needs a vice captain?

I think what Robbo does is teach his players to think like leaders. Part of his culture is that he wants everybody to be prepared to step-up as a leader, rather than leadership being this thing that only one designated person is allowed to provide.
IMO Robbo's plan is genius as it gets the most out of everybody, forces youngsters (with little work experience outside playing footy) to think like grown men and manages burn-out.
As an example... not saying Braith's our messiah but in 2010 he was captain while guys like Pearce, Carney, Friend, Myles, BJ...etc were running amok every night (part of the problem was that guys like Myles and Carney weren't seen as 'leaders' at all... they were just being paid to play footy). Braith felt like their babysitter, got burned out and we didn't have an appropriate surrounding leadership group to get us over the line (in a GF that I reckon we coulda had a better dig at finishing off after being ahead at 1/2 time). One may also draw parallels between this and the 2003-2005 era (or 2009). I dunno if Freddy was mature enough to take-on the load of outright captain. He was a great player but needed those around him to step up as leaders when it counted.
I dunno... I think modern work cultures encourage people to lead and take-one more strategic responsibility. From my perspective, good leaders need to be good at sharing the responsibility and seeking advice from others. The co-captain model is modern and has been extremely successful.
If nothing else, it's also a loophole whereby two people can talk to the refs without being told 'I only talk to the captain'.
