Of course Sam Walker is a better prospect than Drew Hutchison and will be far better player long term.

But Sam Walker is still only 19. And he'll only be 19 when next season starts. He still needs a couple of years physical maturity before he's ready for the rigours of first grade rugby league and has the size and strength to handle the defensive workload.

As of now he's a huge defensive liability. And no way is he close to Thurston defensively yet. Certainly when compared to a 19yr old JT but not a prime JT who was quite solid.

And just on JT, at the time of the 2004 GF he was 21 years old and yet he was STILL only a bench utility. He was almost 22 by the time of his first full season of NRL footy.

And he's a great comparison because he would have been just as tiny as Walker, who is now being targeted by much bigger players.

It is grossly unfair on Sam Walker to expect him as a tiny 19yr old to do what even JT needed a few years more to accomplish - namely being ready for the week to week rigours of NRL footy.

I'm sure Robbo even uses JT as a comparison when talking to Walker and his dad; who went on to play over 300 games and play into his mid 30s which Sam can also do.

But as of now I think Hutch is the better fit. A much bigger body who will look a lot better next year besides Keary who I still rate as the best creative half in the game.

Anyway Walker will still get a dozen games I'm sure due to injuries and rests. And even a few off the bench.

But as for what's best for both Walker and the team; that is Hutch to start week 1 imo.
Keary is world class in the halves but Hutch, Walker & Lam are not. If Keary goes down its not gonna be good.
Like you said Walker is a better prospect than Hutch but like you also said not until he weighs over 90kg so until then I think Robbo will go with Keary & Lam/Hutch again. If Walker gets to 90kg before next year I reckon he would start at half & Keary 5/8 which is better for the Roosters.

Ur all talking about Sammy like he’s going to be the same size next year. Make no mistake, Sammy over the iffseason will be on a strict diet of chicken and broccoli, will be hitting the gym everyday and on a couple of performance enhancers (yes I’m if the view that most professional players in all sports are on some ped’s, but that’s a different issue for another day). Sammy next year will be weighing 85-90 kg make no doubt about it. Hutcho or Connor may start the year at 6 but come finals time it’ll be Sammy

Walker looked injured in both shoulders for the majority of this season. Nothing wrong with his courage and attitude.
Agree he can be over run on the line and needs some size. That will come.

I think he needs some power in his legs to kick some goals and gain some length. This is something we sadly miss

You think JT, Toovey, Langer and even OUR Cooper Cronk weighed 90kg? If Walker weighed 90kg or more he’ll be remembered as the new Chris Sandow.

I hope we ditch the Walker goalkicker idea. Doesn't look a natural even putting lack of power/timing aside. I'd run with Billy and SST.

I totally agree we can not win the comp without Keary.

He's absolutely integral to our side. As much so as Cleary to Penrith.

If you’d seen Robbo on NRL360 during the week , you would’ve heard him talk about Walker and what program he has for him during the off season.
To summarise, Robbo said that Walker walked up to Robbo and told him what he thinks he needs to do to develop his game further, and Robbo said this shows the quality and maturity of the player. Enough said . TIT.

Dont know what any of them weighed but it would be close to 90kg I would think. Pumping the iron will get Walker to 90kg, he's got a bigger frame than Keary & is taller than Keary who is 85kgs.

                      Exactly.
I saw that interview with Robbo who is not worried one bit about Walkers physical development because he knows Sam is onto it. Sam will do everything he can to be playin at 85kgs next year & after 3 or 4 offseason he will get to 90kgs.

Not sure what Walker weighs now but I'd be surprised if he's 75kgs. He'd have to eat a sh!t load of pasta to get to 90kgs in the off season. It would take him another couple years to get there imo. Anyone got Gal's number?

Sam will need a decent beer gut to get near 90kg. I liken him a bit to DCE who now even in his 30's only hits 85kg.

                            Walker is 183 cm and 78 kg's

                            Keary is 178 cm and 85 kg's

                            Lam is 178 cm and 84 kg's

                            Hutch is 187 cm and 97 kg's

                            Watson is 177 cm and 89 kg's

                            Keighran is 183 cm and 91 kg's

So from the above Walker's ideal playing weight would be around 85 or so kg's

                            DCE is 183 cm and 85 kg's

                            Cleary is 182 cm and 92 kg's

                            Hughes is 183 cm and 92 kg's

                            Reynolds is 173 cm and 85 kg's

                            Moses is 182 cm and 85 kg's

I prefer Walker but Robbo must fix our ball handling otherwise all this is a complete waste of time. In a game with so much speed, the team which has to continually defend gets tired quick and risks being thrashed! Different players and still our completions are terrible. It seems Robbo is only speed training us snd not bothering with completions. We aren’t a threat to the comp with our current error rate no matter the roster.
