  • Titans should have been awarded a penalty! Really?

What about the play where Verrills ran from dummy half, should have been a penalty right in front.

Media has gone the other way and ignored the ………..

I guess they'll be looking to penalise next week if we even remotely have anyone standing in the vicinity of the ruck

I reckon the ref could penalise every play the ball of the game. Its all subjective but if they refereed the game to the letter it would be horrible.
Thank God we have the refs.

Too many questions. Is a player standing offside always penalised or only if they become directly involved in the play? Also Walker was standing a few metres to the right of Radley so is it still technically an obstruction?

I do think that last play of the game could have been a penalty as there is no way all our defenders got back onside.

            1. Every single field goal for the last several years has had a wall next to the play the ball. They cracked down on it for about 3 weeks 5 years ago but now anything goes
            2. It doesn't matter if an attacking player is standing in front of the play the ball. As long as they don't touch the ball before the next tackle that's 100% fine. Otherwise are we going to start penalising teams on the 1st tackle on their own goal line when the forwards are still walking back onside after a kick? What's the difference?

If players are standing in front of the ruck, isn’t that the ‘downtown’ rule IF they get involved with the ball? Standing in front can be seen in most games but never penalised because in most cases players don’t get involved, so the mere fact that our players stood in front motionless doesn’t constitute a penalty IMO but of course any whinge can be turned into foul play by losers and haters.

Annesley actually stood up for us. Said only a penalty if wall is shoulder to shoulder and doesn't allow player to get through. Rein was able to run between Jared and Victor so no issue.
Also confirmed my statement from above about players in front of the play the ball - it doesn't matter as long as they aren't involved in the play.
McCallum should have another look at the rule book instead of claiming he follows the game as closely as anyone. Clown

The whole 'offside' thing started with Roach on the night which then was posted everywhere on FoxSports. That dope is the last bloke who would know anything to do with officiating

                    NRL Rules

                    The Wall

If two or more players form a wall (side by side) next to the play the ball and don’t allow the opportunity for a defending player to move directly towards the player in possession, the referee will penalise for obstruction.

                    Downtown Chasers

A player is considered ‘downtown’ when: A player who is in front of the kicker in general play who intentionally advances beyond the point of the previous play the ball before the ball has gone past him.

I noticed on the Penrith examples they had 2 players but not standing side by side though - In one of the examples a Penrith play did lean towards the advancing defender - Way around this as a defender is to run into either of these 2 players and fall over and see what happens

Are you saying it should have been a penalty?

No as per the rules for the wall it says 2 or more players forming a wall standing side by side next to the play the ball - teams have 2 or more players but not side by side so under the current rules that is legal.

What Bennett was talking about regarding Penrith was on one of the examples the Penrith player leaned towards the oncoming defender and on another example the Penrith player moved slightly towards the oncoming defender.

If defenders had some smarts they would just run into these players and fall over and see what the REF/Bunker rule

Wonder what the ruling would be nowadays on the wall the Chooks and Parra used in attack under the Coaching of Big Jack Gibson

At one time i recall the attacking side had to stand back 5 metres from the play the ball area when not involved as the player playing the ball or the dummy half.

the fox nrl website isn't serious. its plus is that it keeps up to date but its minus is that it reports what some of its less talented commentators have said as if it's fact

Teams have been doing this for years but we will be the first team penalized for this. 100%.

Yes, he did, and backed it up showing 6-8 identical other examples from other games.

This pissed off the thickhead "journalists" no end, with 2 of them blubbering "but, but JWH was in front of the PTB, and what if what if???"

I hope we win again this weekend just to piss the haters off for one more week.
