don't follow the horses and have been given that many dud tips that i no longer bet but one time i overheard a conversation - 'is that happening with xxxxxx xxx in the xth at xxxxxxxx? okay, good' and so put a bit on xxxxxx xxx because when i asked the bloke if he was talking about a horse race he said no. came in at 10 - 1 and it was nice to get a bit back.

I drove to that game and spent a fair amount of time in the car park as they only allowed left turns from the car park onto Driver Avenue - It was a 30 thousand plus crowd with the Chooks winning 12-10.

Andrew Gee making the mistake from the 20 metre restart after Andrew Walker missed the field goal by tapping the ball on his foot instead of placing it on the ground tapping it with his foot and picking it up- Ivan Cleary then kicks the penalty goal to win the game

They were talking about it on the radio for an eternity it seemed - I think it was 1.3 or 1.5 million- Wikipedia has it as $2,006,217 though

Jackpots brought about a major increase in the popularity of "Pick The Margins" betting so that it became the most popular type of bet on rugby league in Australia. Today, "Pick The Margins" prizes are usually greater than the largest available from betting on horse racing with the record being $2,006,217 awarded to one punter after three successive jackpots on 8 July 1996. (it is noteworthy that this punter only won as a result of a last minute Sydney City penalty goal).

Yeah, sounds about right. I was gutted! Not a big punter, either. I usually just did pick the winners for fun.

I have never gambled. Been to Vegas 3 times, never spent a dollar on gambling. I am grateful for all the money I have saved by not gambling.

I imagine some of you would have no interest in the footy if you couldn’t gamble on the game.

No amount of money will compensate me for a Roosters loss and I’m always thrilled after a win without wanting/needing more money.

Funny how gamblers are always quick to talk about their winnings or post photos on social media when they have the odd win, but they go all silent after a loss.

I want to like this more than once. I'm not a wowse but I don't like to see mainstream discussion of gambling. I think it is for mugs.

Can’t remember the specific punt/s, but I made over $400 on a $30 stake on GF day 2018. I recall it involved Manu somehow.

Ended up in the private players and family party at Easts Leagues that night until 7am. Free booze and food and all. Nuts.

I hate poker machines and can't even be in the same room as them as the lights and noise make me nauseous. I'm the only one in my family who hasn't been to Vegas I think. Places like that make my skin crawl. I just like testing my abilities and am always happy to see others do well.

I put on a few $10 each way bets and when he made the field I handed them out to my Dad, Father-in-law, brothers and brothers-in-law. Also had $400 on for myself.
He was 20 lengths off them in the back straight and stuck on the fence and my face was white. Coming around the bend the horses in front of him kept leaving the fence and he kept taking inside runs. I thought FM if the two in front do the same he is in this. Then came the open sesame and he took the run along the fence and raced away. The family collected about $600 each. The best $3600 I ever gave away.

Rarely punt, but my "kiss of death" moment was putting $50 first try scorer on PJ Marsh the Parra hooker? in Origin at $31. Poor bugger lasted about 5/10 minutes I think, went off with a suspected busted neck.

1998 football World Cup final, $50 on France to win 3-0 at $38.

I haven't had much of a gambling past, playing craps at the casino was fun back in the day. I do remember going to the caloundra races as part of a work/holiday trip. I chucked 5 bucks or something on the grey and it was quite thrilling watching them come down the straight. My horse won and I was the only dude hoopin and a hollerin while everyone else around me threw their tickets on the ground in disgust.

Haha good times. Im glad i never got hooked on having a punt though. I won the tipping comp at work in 2013, 500 bucks thank you very much.

In the days when you couldn’t have a percent of a trifecta and units were $1, I was down about $800 on a Saturday and was going out for dinner with 3 other families so I went to the TAB , which used to close at 8 pm back them and had a superfecta on Wentworth park dogs race 2 , big odd on favourite so I stood out the second favourite ( 8/1) with 5 dogs cost $120, and it got up.
Had to call recorded phone tab results and nearly fell when I heard it paid $11,367 .

                              What could have been.....

Never been a big punter $10 or $20 most races is my standard bet. $100 is a big bet. Friday before Slipper day in 2016 I was down in Sydney for work and lying in bed before breakfast. Looked at Crownbet at the races the following day and put a few bets on. I had $20 on Capitalist in the Slipper at $9, $20 on a horse called Griante in a race two races later at around $8 and $20 on the all up. I get up Saturday morning and check my account and there's an extra $40 there, Griante had been scratched so got my money back.

Later that day I watched the Slipper and was cheering when Capitalist won and I got my $180. The field for the next race the Galaxy then came up on the screen and there's Griante! It was a dual acceptor and I hadn't realised. I had my $20 on it and it duly saluted at $20 so had a very nice collect. Then it twigged, sheeeshhh, my all up. 9 x 20 x 20 = $3600! If only I had looked a bit closer after the scratching! Ohh well small fish taste just as sweet they say!

Much like Thirteen, I’m not a gambling man. I’ve seen a couple mates go through gambling addiction and that’s when I thought “yeah, not for me”.
