Watch out, you will get bombarded with gay and animal porn now. One sick individual.

I admired Jake (the player) for his incredible toughness, bravery and dependability. I may have under-rated his attack but never his defence. He put his body in front of some enormous human beings - often. He kept our defensive line intact - almost always. He kept my blood pressure at manageable levels - almost always. I can now say that I admire Jake (the man) for those same qualities. Well played champion, enjoy retirement and may your body heal itself well. Thanks for the memories.

You don't always get to go out on your terms in Sport but it was the right decision in the end. He will still be around the club in some capacity one assumes hopefully. The hardest thing will be the next day/weeks as a few players have told stories of how they were in their cars driving to training to then remember that they had retired.
Anyway Jake good luck in your future endeavour's and it's been a pleasure watching you play week in week out and giving your all for the Red White and Blue.

I'm sorry I don't usually get personal on here but come on mate...Cancel cancel culture.

I didn’t think I could ever love a #9 more than Simon Bonetti but Jake Friend may just be my all time fav.
I could always forgive his NFL QB passes as you knew he’d make up for it with his tenacity.
We will mis his leadership and 60+ tackles a game

Great redemption story. Tough as nails.
Not many sportspeople go out on their own terms unfortunately, Jake being one.
If it wasn't for cam Smith, would of played 20 plus Origins. Achieved everything in the game. Ridiculously crazy tackle count, never took a backward step. Will be sorely missed.
Maybe delayed his "official" retirement by an extra day, in respect to the passing of Tommy yesterday.
Overtook my favourite toughest rooster hooker in Simon Bonetti.
Enjoy retirement mate. Being a new dad and continuing your successful businesses. I'm sure Uncle Nick will give him some sort of PR role.
The heartbeat and "glue" in our forwards. Will be missed.

Greatest hooker in Roosters history imo and one of my favourite players.
A key fundamental part of why the 'Bondi wall' worked so well. For such a small bloke, I struggle to think of a more committed and courageous defender than our Jake. Over a decade of being in the centre of the field, with the biggest baddest lads from the opposition running straight for him every week. Blokes literally double his size.
And he met every challenge without reservation and hesitation.
Never resorted to grub tactics. Just got the fk on with it.
His deeds in our jersey will never be forgotten.
Stoic, professional and dedicated.
3 Premierships, 2 as Captain. And a nice SOO win to round it out (although I believe it was criminal that DCE got the nod for captaincy over Jake).
Legend.

Well done Jake on a great career for just the one club.
You will be missed. Thank you for the memories mate.
I hope that he stays on connected to the club in some way, shape or form for many years to come. He will be an asset for the younger players coming through.MRR or Rabid
Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

I feel like he didn't wanna retire and we didn't want him to either, but he made the wisest choice.
TBH I'm glad there's been a momentum shift in terms of thinking. I've never seen it as being 'tough' when people choose to play with injuries of that nature. There's a fine line between 'tough' and stupid. IMO knowing the difference is important.Last edited by ism22; 04-09-2021, 09:02 AM.
