The Sydney Roosters are devastated to hear about the sudden death of club and rugby league legend, Arthur Beetson.
One of rugby league’s most well respected and liked characters, Artie will always hold a special place in the hearts of everyone associated with the Roosters.
His combined passion for Club, State and his indigenous heritage was inspiring to all Australians and will never be forgotten.

Arthur Beetson was inducted into the Roosters Hall of Fame in 2010.
Player number 615 for the Sydney Roosters, Artie is one of rugby league’s seven immortals is still referred to as the best prop Australia has ever seen.
Arthur played 131 games for Easts between 1971 and 1978, captaining the 1974 and 1975 premiership winning teams, and coached the club between 1985 and 1988, earning the ‘Coach of the Year’ award in 1987.
Beetson then used his incredible gift of understanding what it took to be an elite rugby league player to recruit some of the best young players in the country as the Sydney Roosters Recruitment Officer, a position he held until 2008.
In 2003 he was inducted into the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame. In 2008, in rugby league’s Centenary year, Beetson was awarded the Clive Churchill Medal, for the best player on the field, for the 1974 Grand Final, as well as being named in rugby league’s Team of the Century, QLD’s Team of the Century and the Indigenous Team of the Century.
Jack Gibson once said of Arthur Beetson, “He could do it all on the football field and he could sell tickets. He was an entertainer and a great player.”
