I am struggling to see the purpose and value of ‘magic’” round?

I mean apart from the increased revenue, event atmosphere and the ability to showcase the game in a different format then yeah sure, what’s the point?

They are already planning on taking it to other cities. It's just a weekend to celebrate the game and unite all the fans. Sounds like a good excuse to get on the beers and enjoy a day full of first grade footy.

They should do it in school holidays so families can make a trip out of it. Set up a bunch of training camps in collaboration with the 16 clubs that the parents can drop the kids off at during the week.

Scrap the standalone Thursday night game and do a full Friday day of games. 2pm, 5pm, 8pm.

Allow fans to walk in and out of the stadium with games for the kids, some pop up bars and decant food options.

I think it's a great idea and if done right could have a really fun festival vibe about it.

It could become a huge bargaining chip for the NRL too, the boost it would give local city economies would be huge. Cities all over Asutralia and New Zealand would be extremely interested in sponsoring the event.
2pm and 5pm Friday will make it hard for people to be there.

I think 2 games on Friday night. Three games Saturday and three on Sunday. As long as the ground could handle this.

I like how that idiot Beattie put it. Now RL has three huge events. Origin, Grand Final and Magic Round. Magic round can move around year by year to different venues around the country.

They arent growing the game or adding any more fans to the crowd numbers. In fact, if you level it out over the weekend, Im sure you would find the crowd numbers are actually less. Look at Thursday night as just one example. I think they had 17k or so there for the game. Play that game at Shark Park and they would have got that or slightly more. I believe the other days where there are multiple games are all on the one ticket per day so on Saturday, with 3 games and a total sell out, it would equate to only approx 16500 per game. Im certain almost all the sides playing today would get close to if not more than those crowd numbers in either Sydney, Newy or NZ and apart from the SCG being a factor in our cowd numbers being slightly lower, we would be close as well, along with the bunnies game.

A city boost yes, a game boost, I cant see it.

Last night stunk that the Donkeys could get an away game played at home. I cant stand that the NRL keep propping these guys up as the heartland of rugby league.

Only sydney clubs are ever forced to give away home games.

A whole round of the best sport in Australia being played at the best stadium in Australia sounds a little magic to me....

As an Easts fan I feel the less games we play at the SCG the better anyway..

It is definitely a superb ground for watching footy. Lets hope our new ground gets the same treatment once ready in a few years.

Saying that, whats the capacity of the new Parra venue? Wouldnt that have been a great way to celebrate the new stadium there?

This is all about shoring up the QRL. They're haemorrhaging money and fans since both Bennett and Thurston left town. The less said about the Titans the better.

                      define magic?
is the definition of magic taking home games away from Sydney members and expecting them to be appeased?

                      this whole round stinks
its like an NRL payback to Suncorp
Simple answer. It's magic for brisbane and for the broncos.
We lose a home game and play the ponies in brisbane again next week. 5 day turn around and heaps of traveling.

Money for somebody (Suncorp?) I presume. Alternatively, because it's a good excuse to give Darius Boyd an extra home game in front of his admiring groupies.

As long as the Roosters win I dont care where they play them.

If the game would have been held in Sydney it would have been stuck on a cold Saturday night and played with a very small crowd because the raiders attract little interest in Sydney AND I know many fans who aren’t into either teams who are going to this game plus you have fans of the cows and Souths and it will be a good atmosphere to play on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon.

As for missing a home game then how about the Adelaide game against the Storm? That game should have been scheduled at our new fortress the SCG. That decision may cost us more because other teams find it hard to adjust to the field...

And as for a short turnaround against the Broncos...well that will test our mental strength to overcome that much like we had to overcome playing the grand final with a busted Cronk. If that taught us anything, it will be that we can overcome those kind of adversities. Roosters should take the points on both games.

All your answers. Including the word ‘Magic’
Disconnects between events in the northern and southern hemisphere are pretty much a constant in rugby league. I remember as we prepared to host a world record rugby league crowd at the opening of the then-Stadium Australia in 1999, there was only a vague awareness that the previous mark was 102,575 set at the Challenge […]

I like your thinking - that would be better - why on earth it’s not in school holidays is crazy unless it truly is only about qld tourism dollars who probably don’t need the boost inside school holidays.
