    The club should pay......

Whatever it costs to keep Mitchell. The guy is a matchwinner, even if it means getting rid of 2 players to accommodate him, he is that good. Possibly the best player we've ever had, Artie included.

IMHO Latrell hasn't yet earned the right to command 1 million + a season.

Someone mentioned Boyd taking $800,00pa at the Broncos. He earned that after years of service to the game through his efforts for club, State and Country

Latrell is 21. He has many years ahead of him and a wage of $800,000 seems appropriate to me.

Again, I don't imagine many here will agree with me. But that's cool.

This from the guy who wants us to sign Gutherson.

Latrell Mitchell is far and away the most naturally gifted and talented player in the game today . A pure power machine with such vision and awareness he is on another level all together. Absolutely Irreplaceable . Genuine SUPERSTAR . We will not let him go anywhere !

It's not an easy juggling act. Sometimes if you lose a player, the team goes downhill. Look at Joey at the Knights and Freddy here. Not saying that losing Latrell means we will go down hill, but you want to be sure you're doing the right thing if you're letting a player who is willing to play for you for unders (even if 'unders' is a substantial figure) because he feels at home with you. I don't know what should be our maximum offer, but you'd figure Latrell could be a matchwinner for years to come.

At the end of the day he is worth what someone is willing to pay for him. I reckon every club would offer him $800k which means his worth is more than that.

i think we can give latrell 1 mill max if, and only if he plays 5/8th, he is not the most important person in this team. top of my head tedesco, keary, cronk, jwh are generally more important. he was dynamite at the weekend, but he can go missing big time, and i think a lot of people / commentators have got lost in that last game , i doubt this week will be like that , i feel 1 mill is excellent money and if he does not want to take 1 mill at the roosters then he can move on for the fact that heobviously aint that attached to the place/ club , because i can guarantee that with a player like latrell there will be a few rocks in amongst those diamonds.

Whilst I respect your opinion Red, you probably couldn't have picked a worse comparison. Darius hasn't really shown himself to be a loyal clubman, running off to the Dragons when Bennett signed there. However if you have watched him play this year, he has completely downed tools and isn't even trying. Bronco's fans absolute can't stand him and are ropable that he will be chewing up that amount of money for another few years. He is a prime example of awarding a big contract to a guy who is over the hill, which is the wrong time to be throwing big money at a player.

Says the guy who was advocating signing Kasiano for 400 earlier this year, and now believes Mitchell should only be offered 600.

I don't believe anyone has advocated sacrificing the team to keep Latrell, maybe one or 2 players. Yet you would rather sacrifice him and chase bog average players. Go figure..

Why move him to the halves though? IMO centre suits him because he's a specialised weapon rather than an 80 minute workhorse.

IMO he compliments your halves rather than being your 5/8. For example he can still:
    - Kick conversions (5/8's job anywhere else)
    - Do long drop-outs
    - Kick 40/20's
    - Kick for touch
    - Setup tries off 5/8 style touches
    - Move to 5/8 if the 5/8 is out, struggling or gets hurt

While centres generally get paid less than halves, you've gotta remember we're replacing Cronk... a Mr Reliable halfback... not Keary. If he wasn't Cooper Cronk, IMO questions would be asked about why he only ran 26m in a game where we dominated. Sure he kicked ~450m from ~14 kicks but we're not in the market for a Joey/Carney/JT style half. Why? Because we've got Latrell...

Pearce said it himself why he didn't fit within our team... 'I wanna lead the team around the field, Robbo... I wanna be the halfback'. IMO the nuance behind that is that Robbo didn't want a hero halfback. He wants a patient HB who is gonna steady the ship, maximise field position through defensive kicks and then let Keary, Cords, Latrell and Toops add the polish when needed. A lot of halves won't want thT. If Lam can be patient and buy into a Cronk-style gameplan then he'll win a premiership with Latrell as 'centre'... noting that Latrell really doesn't fit the traditional description of any position aside from 'superstar'.
