On Fox right now they’re playing Easts v Canterbury on a muddy SFS from 1989.
As great as it is watching Jarvis, Trewhella, Salvo and Silva play well for us (while other big names: McGahan, Spina, Gilmeister and Melrose - not so great), the standard of footy back then was crap.
The mud isn’t helping, but it’s just so flat. Really telegraphed run arounds and looping passes.
The defense was brutal though.

You know, having watched half of a Souths vs. Brisbane game from 1989 (same year) I’d now have to say that I agree. It was played on a perfectly dry sunny afternoon and the footy was great.
Bronko Djura was having a great game as Souths’ custodian. I think souths might have been on their way to the Minor Premiership that season and as you’d imagine, your fullback needs to be firing. A very young Serdaris was filling in at 9 for the injured Fenech - you could see he was going to be a great player too.
